- O papel do enfermeiro especialista na promoção da esperança em pais de crianças/jovens com doença crónicaPublication . Peixoto, Ana Catarina Maia; Charepe, Zaida BorgesThis report arises within the scope of the Master's Degree in Nursing in the area of specialization in Child Health and Pediatrics of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. It aims to analyze and reflect on the acquisition of competencies related to the Nurse Specialist, the Nurse Specialist in Child Health and Pediatrics, and the Master. The promotion of Hope as a Nursing intervention through the therapeutic relationship between the nurse and the child/young person, as well as the respective family, and based on Jean Watson's Theory of Human Care and in complementarity with the Hope promoting mutual aid intervention model of Zaida Charepe. To the scientific evidence on the promotion of hope, a scoping review on the "Ethical issues in the promotion of Hope in parents of children with chronic illness" was conducted. On internment it was possible to follow and understand the complexity of the care provided to children and young people and its impact on the family structure. This learning process provided the Nursing team with a training session in the hope of promoting mutual aid intervention Model, to be given to the Nursing team to be implemented in the service in the future, to help parents through mutual help groups. In the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, it was possible to monitor and observe the care provided, verifying the impact on the family structure of preterm infants. The learning process led to the creation of communication resources integrated into the baby's diary, promoting the therapeutic dimension of hope in parents. In the Pediatric Emergency Department, it was possible to provide care to children and their families in particularly complex situations. The fragility of families in the face of threats to their children's health allowed them to develop skills in promoting hope with a focus on communicating bad news.
- Competências culturais do enfermeiro especialista em saúde infantil e pediátricaPublication . Vasconcelos, Filipa Alexandra Agostinho; Berenguer, Sílvia Maria Alves CaldeiraThis report was written for the 16th Master's Degree in Pediatric Nursing at the Nursing School Lisbon, at Universidade Católica Portuguesa. It aims to describe and analyse my journey during the different internship contexts, describing the objectives outlined for each one, as well as the planned activities and reflecting on how I developed the competences of a pediatric nurse. For the master’s degree, it was essential to develop a scoping review. This review was carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Joana British Institute. The theme behind the different internship projects was cultural care, based on Madeleine Leininger's Theory of Cultural Care. The internships took place over fifteen weeks, divided into five weeks in each of the following contexts: Pediatric Ward, Neonatology and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. During each internship, a situational diagnosis was made, objectives were outlined and activities were planned in order to carry them out successfully. Although each context had its own particularities, it was important to work on cultural competence in all of them. During this academic journey, it was possible to develop the skills of a pediatric nurse, as well as the master's degree skills.
- As alterações climáticas e o desenvolvimento infantil : interface para a intervenção do enfermeiro especialistaPublication . Silva, Ana Rafaela Sousa e; Berenguer, Sílvia Maria Alves CaldeiraThis report comes under the scope of the Final Internship and Report Curricular Unit, of the 16th Master’s degree in Pediatric Nursing, at the Nursing School of Lisbon, Catholic University of Portugal. Reports my training path, describing and critically analyzing internship experiences and how the development of pediatric nurse skills took place. Regarding the master's degree, I designed a literature review, coupled with a study peer, that aims to chart the scientific evidence between climate changes and child development. It was a lengthy and rigorous work that developed key concepts and clear space to increase scientific findings. The following report comprehends internship periods in the context of pediatric hospitalization, neonatology and the context of primary health care, namely in a family health unit. The grounded theme was transversal to all internship places, which promoted its consideration among nursing teams and contributed to improving the provided health care. The entire outlined path allowed the common specialist nurses skills development, as well as the pediatric nurses' skills.
- Aplicação da escala de news2 em doentes agudos em contexto de internamentoPublication . Tavares, David Alexandre Dias; Martins, Maria de Lurdes dos SantosThe Nursing profession is constantly updated due to health care needs whose responses are constructer using research and scientific evidence, which is essential for the provision of care. The acquisition of specialized technical-scientific skills to provide the best care to the population's demands becomes urgent. Being a nurse is much more than knowing how to do it. To be an excellent professional you need to know how to be, know how to know and know how to do. The nursing paradigm has undergone several changes and therefore, investment in specialized training is essential to provide the best care, based on the most up-to-date scientific evidence. This internship report is part of the Master's Course in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for People in Critical Situations at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. It will demonstrate in a critical and reflective way the path of acquisition and development of Specialist Nurse skills in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for People in Critical Situations, resulting from advances made in the context of the Intensive Care Unit and General Emergency Service. Throughout the report, a theme is developed, namely the application of the NEWS2 Scale, which became fundamental to outline my internship objectives and develop the skills of a master and specialist. A scoping review was carried out, mapping the most recent scientific evidence, evaluating the extent and nature of the literature on the advantages of applying the NEWS2 scale to acute patients, in an inpatient context. The importance of the nurse's assessment of a critically ill patient or one whose clinical condition is about to deteriorate is highlighted, as well as the importance of applying the scale to standardize language and correctly and quickly signal the critically ill patient to different environments, in a hospital context.
- O contributo da inteligência artificial para um cuidado especializadoPublication . Rodrigues, André Mafra Neves; Rabiais, Isabel Cristina MascarenhasThe present report is part of the Curricular Unit "Final Internship and Report", included in the curricular plan of the 16th Master's Degree in Nursing, in the specialization area of Medical-Surgical Nursing: Nursing for the Person in Critical Situation, at the Lisbon Nursing School of the Portuguese Catholic University. The aim of this instrument is to describe and analyse, critically and reflexively, the course developed over the last three semesters, as well as to demonstrate the acquisition and consolidation of knowledge and skills that took place over this period of time. This course and this cycle of studies aim, academically, to obtain the Master’s degree and, professionally, the title of Specialist Nurse, thus simultaneously enhancing the academic and professional development of the nurses who complete it. A research project - a scoping review - was carried out to map knowledge on the contribution of artificial intelligence to nursing diagnoses. This research identified the applicability of artificial intelligence to nursing diagnoses within the scope of the nursing process, with clear contributions to the provision of care. At the same time, two internships were carried out in clinical contexts with a high level of training – in an Interventional Cardiology Unit and in a Polyvalent Intensive Care Unit. Worldwide, the contexts in which health care is provided are currently highly complex and demanding, both due to sociodemographic changes in the population and to technological development. Artificial intelligence and its applicability in healthcare have undergone a revolutionary evolution in recent years. Nurses must recognize and integrate the results of technological evolution when they represent greater quality and safety for the care provided and gains for the institutions that provide care. The academic and professional development of nurses is a highly demanding process that must inevitably be based on a high-quality scientific and training method.
- O cuidado à pessoa em situação crítica : o debriefing como estratégiaPublication . Oliveira, Marta Sofia da Silva; Mendes, Maria Manuela Madureira LebreThis report comes as part of the Master's Degree in Nursing, in the area of Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing: Person in Critical Condition, by the Institute of Health Sciences of the Catholic University of Portugal, with the purpose of mirroring, by critically and reflectively analysing the path taken, the acquisition and development of scientific, technical, ethical and relational skills in specialized care for people in critical condition. The phenomenon of debriefing will be explored – as a clinical reflection on action, translating an opportunity for growth and development for the multidisciplinary team that takes care of the person in critical condition and, consequently, translating into a better outcome for the person cared for – whose study was directed to its effects, culminating in the construction of a scoping review on the theme "The effects of care-focused debriefing: on the multidisciplinary team and on the person in critical condition – the Scoping Review". Based on the theoretical pillars of Afaf Meleis and Patricia Benner, we will embark on a journey from the skills acquired in my career as a nurse to the skills acquired and deepened in the course of the Final Internship in an emergency and intensive care context. Through the description of the experiences lived in the internship, reflections on themes that I considered pertinent emerged: from the experience of pain in the person in the emergency department, to leadership and the importance of debriefing in complex care situations/ resuscitation, to the person under renal function replacement technique. The importance of caring for the family of the person in a critical condition it will also be explored through reflection in a defined appendix. Evidence-based practice will shine through, and will emerge in communion with, the description of the development of common and specific aspects of the nurse specialist in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the Nursing Area for the Person in Critical Condition, along with master’s competences.
- O enfermeiro especialista enquanto promotor de uma experiência da amamentação saudávelPublication . Cabrito, Joana Isabel Correia; Berenguer, Sílvia Maria Alves CaldeiraThis report is part of the Master's Degree Program in Pediatric Nursing, at the Institute of Health Sciences of the Catholic University of Portugal. Aims to describe the internship in the clinical settings from a critical and reflective perspective, integrating professional growth that should reflect the competencies profile. Specific objectives were defined, and personalised activities were developed for each clinical context, following a project-based methodological approach. In the nursing profession, pregnant or postpartum women often have doubts regarding the decision to breastfeed, as this decision is not only complex but also needs to be unique and well-informed. The concept of the decision to breastfeed is personal and influenced by various factors, some of which are derived from each woman's socialisation (Levy, L.; Bértolo, H., 2012). Understanding the experience of the decision to breastfeed in pregnant or postpartum women allows the pediatric nurse to acquire skills in informing and supporting this decision. The objective of this report is to develop the skills of a pediatric nurse, based on Ramona Mercer's middle-range theory of "Becoming a Mother." This theory was applied in different clinical settings, including pediatric emergency, medical pediatrics ward, and neonatal intensive care unit, to develop parental competencies in breastfeeding. It is important to adopt a humanistic, personalised, and holistic approach in partnership with parents to make a beneficial decision.
- Parceria de cuidados para uma capacitação parental bem-sucedidaPublication . Medeiros, Vânia Sousa; Berenguer, Sílvia Maria Alves CaldeiraThis report was developed during the master’s Course in Child and Pediatric Nursing, in which the main theme is the importance of parental care partnership between nurses and caregivers towards successful Parental empowerment. Throughout this report, we intend to describe and analyze the acquisition and development of common skills of a pediatric nurse with a master’s degree. Over the years of my professional practice in neonatology, I have always tried to include parents in the provision of care so that they feel empowered and safe to take their child later home, even when there are some associated special needs. In this degree, I intended to reflect and use scientific evidence to inform practice in all aspects including childcare. The Model of Nursing Care in Pediatrics (Mendes, 2013), was adopted as the theoretical framework to support the main theme and to guide the nursing interventions. This model stresses the importance of parents/nurse partnership and the nature of care, based on developing communication strategies and establishing a relationship of trust to achieve success in the negotiation process and consequent parental training. The systematic literature review that was conducted concluded that “Empowering” is a nursing intervention that comprises Teaching, Instructing, Training and Supervising in partnership with the child's parents, towards a greater security for caregivers while providing care to their children, allowing to improve and consolidate knowledge. Nursing interventions mostly involve individualized care plans, and educational methods for consolidating teaching, namely, the delivery of illustrated guides and educational videos, as well as training in health education sessions. Thus, it is concluded that involving parents in care increases their confidence, satisfaction, and empowerment, making this process more efficient.
- Perceção dos enfermeiros de unidades cuidados intensivos sobre futilidade terapêuticaPublication . Casqueira, Raquel Sofia Ruela; Fernandes, Sérgio Joaquim DeodatoThe main purpose of this Report is to highlight my journey of developing skills as a Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for the Person in Critical Situation and Master in Nursing, throughout the Curricular Unit Final Internship and Report of the 15th Master's Course in Medical-Surgical Nursing: Nursing for the Person in a Critical Situation, from the Lisbon School of Nursing of the Catholic University of Portugal. Based on the objectives outlined in the internship projects, this report intended, from a critical and reflective perspective, to give visibility to the main activities carried out in the different internship fields that took place in the context of an Emergency Service and an Intensive Care Unit. Regardless of the distinction verified in the internship contexts, they demanded specialized care for the person in critical situation and family with a practice essentially developed by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring. As a future Master in Nursing, it seemed pertinent to me to develop a theme that concerned me, that would meet an answer to some questions that I had already had during my professional practice. The development of medical and health sciences, with the consequent need for technological complementarity with the care provided, has notoriously caused an increase in survival. Very positive advances, but nonetheless a challenge for nurses. In Intensive Care Units, the multidisciplinarity and existing devices seem to offer an extension of life. However, do they guarantee quality of life? Thus, the research question arises: For nurses who work in adult intensive care units, what are their perceptions of therapeutic futility in critically ill patients hospitalized in an intensive care unit?
- Adesão ao regime terapêutico na pessoa submetida a transplante de órgão sólido : uma intervenção de enfermagem especializadaPublication . Jesus, Susana Veiga de; Marques, Rita Margarida DouradoThis internship report intends to describe the course of the competence acquisition process throughout the curricular unit “Final Internship and Report” of the third semester of the master’s degree in medical-Surgical Nursing in the Specialization Area: Person in Critical Situation, of Instituto of Health Sciences - Lisbon, from Catholic University of Portugal. This document presents a critical and reasoned reflection on the development of master's and specialist skills based on the Regulation of specific skills of specialist nurses in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the Area of Nursing for the Person in Critical Situation and on the Regulation of Common Skills of Specialist Nurses. For the conclusion of this curricular unit, I carried out an internship in an Intensive Care Unit, Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle and in a Central Emergency Operating Room. In the internship locations, in addition to acquiring skills, I had the opportunity to present to the team a work on effective nursing interventions for the prevention of delirium in critically ill patients, during the internship in intensive care and I was also able to elaborate a rule of procedure regarding the maintenance of normothermia in the context of the operating room. Across the various contexts, I worked on a systematic literature review of evidence of effectiveness on effective interventions in promoting adherence to the therapeutic regimen in people undergoing solid organ transplantation. The results of this research work were published in poster format at the V International Seminar of the master’s in nursing. As a guiding line of thinking in nursing, I integrated two theoretical references in my care provision: Afaf Meleis' Theory of Transitions and Katharine Kolcaba's Theory of Comfort.
