Abstract(s)
The promotion of Socio-emotional skills: in the area of Self-Care in Adolescents appears within the scope of the 17th Master's Course in Nursing in the Specialty Area of Nursing in Community Health and Public Health. An intervention was developed during the internship at a UCC of the northern region of Portugal at a Professional Training Center in the area of school health, based on the National School Health Plan. In this Professional Training Center, the Pedagogical Director identified the need for intervention by health professionals in terms of socio-emotional skills. The intervention was focused on the adolescents, who are experiencing a moment of transition, from child to adulthood, thus finding himself in a vulnerable situation that can lead to risks. These risks can influence and interfere with your Self-Care, such as food, sleep and rest, physical activity, substance and non-substance abuse and Sexually Transmitted Infections. For adolescents to overcome these risks and be able to make responsible and healthy decisions, they must develop knowledge, skills and abilities. This training will be founded and promoted by the nurse, based on two major nursing theories, Afaf Meleis's Transitions Theory and Orem's Self-Care Theory, in order to promote the well-being and quality of life of this population. To carry out this intervention, the health planning methodology was used. To diagnosing the situation, it was applicated of a Kidscreen Scale – 52, and the Dynamics “What I know about myself”, two problems were identified. The problem of Enhancing Improvement for Self-Care after periodization was addressed. With the general objective of increase awareness about Self-Care in Health, in Adolescents, between 14 and 18 years of age, this intervention would take place over a period of 3 years. The intervention strategies were the execution of 2 pre-sessions (diagnosis and motivation) and 5 health training sessions, carried out in the school environment. However, as the internship lasted only 4 months, the intervention was carried out only in the 1st and 2nd year of schooling and at the end an interim assessment was carried out. This intervention resulted in a significant improvement in students' perception of their quality of life in terms of self-care and also in students' satisfaction with the sessions. However, some topics require reinforcement of knowledge, such as healthy eating, physical activity, sleep and rest, non-substance abuse and contraceptive methods. This improvement can be implemented in future intervention. It is also important to note that this intervention is already being extended to other professional schools and continues to take place in this Professional Training Center. The intervention carried out and this report also intends to reflect the development of skills as a Master and Specialist Nurse in Community Health and Public Health. Denoting common and specific skills and as master and specialist.
