- Remaking scenes from a marriage: social memory and the cross-cultural representation of the heteronormative couplePublication . Lopes, Pedro; Rico, MiguelThis article examines the 2021 adaptation Scenes from a Marriage, created by Hagai Levi, as a cross-cultural remake of Ingmar Bergman’s 1973 miniseries Scener ur ett äktenskap. Through a comparative analysis of their pilot episodes, the study examines the screenwriting strategies employed in adapting the narrative across distinct cultural, temporal, and ideological contexts. Beyond thematic and formal changes, the article highlights how shifting representations of intimacy, gender roles, and emotional conflict mirror broader transformations in social memory and cultural identity. Drawing on theories of adaptation and memory (Halbwachs, Hutcheon, Bazin), the remake is approached as both reinterpretation and cultural inscription, where fidelity to the original intersects with innovation in character construction, narrative framing, and emotional articulation. Particular attention is given to dramaturgical mechanisms such as the reversal of gender roles, the representation of abortion, and the meta-cinematic opening that foregrounds the constructed nature of fiction.
- Social work and neurosciences: speeches and theoretical contributionsPublication . Sacadura, M. João Cabral; Almeida, Helena NevesThe concept of “neuroscience” sometimes referred to as “the last frontier of biology” (Squire et al., 2008, p. 3) was introduced in the mid-1960s and is now recognized as a multidisciplinary field that analyzes the nervous system to understand the biological basis of human behavior. The ongoing developments and the arising production regarding the deepening of the structure, functions and functioning of the brain and its interaction with the environment enabled the identification of key elements reaching an unprecedented level of knowledge in the history of humankind. The multidisciplinary scientific approach, including non-clinical areas such as music, philosophy, education, mathematics, economics and physics, has also contributed to its further deepening. In the light of this scenario of interdependencies and disciplinary alliances, the discipline of the social and human sciences – social work – whose subject is conceived “from and for the practice” (Parton, 1996) in the day-to-day work with challenging social problems of various types and with different publics. Therefore, the present article aims to analyze what has been done to date since 2001, namely the input and contributions of authors and researchers in the field as well as to understand the input of neuroscience developments in their education and research. Also worth mentioning is the identification and relevance of the links between these domains which have contributed to the enrichment of the profession.

- Hibridação e aventura humanaPublication . Carneiro, RobertoNo presente artigo retomo e desenvolvo um anterior artigo sobre hibridação cultural. Começo por relacionar globalização e cultura, evidenciando como a convivência intensa de matrizes culturais pode levar a uma essencialização de identidades ou, ao invés, ao aprofundamento de interculturalidades híbridas. De seguida, argumento com a “planura” do mundo para vencer as concepções hegemónicas de cultura e gerar uma arquitectura nova de sociedade em rede, feita de espaços públicos e comunicacionais. Neste quadro, advogo para Portugal uma dupla hibridação, a de recuperação e a de antecipação. Refiro depois a grande oportunidade de aprofundamento dos 3+1 capitais a partir de uma gestão inteligente e humana dos novos fenómenos migratórios, para concluir citando o papel da aventura humana, na miscigenação e no policromatismo, em ordem à criação de sentido.

Tourism, as a dynamic and intangible sector, faces unique communication challenges. This paper critically analyzes storytelling as a tool to bridge these gaps, emphasizing its symbolic and emotional power to enhance destination image, authenticity, and visitor engagement. By synthesizing tourism communication and place branding literature, this study analyzes Portugal’s promotional campaign "Can't Skip Portugal" as a strategic storytelling use in destination promotion. This approach provides theoretical insights and practical implications for stakeholders in the tourism industry.
- Predilecção pela infânciaPublication . Pratas, Maria Helena da GuerraEm 13 de Maio de 2017 foram canonizadas em Fátima duas crianças, Jacinta Marto e Francisco Marto, depositárias da Mensagem da Virgem. No entanto, não foi fácil, ao longo do processo da sua beatificação, chegar à conclusão unânime de que duas crianças podiam ser santas, alcançar a santidade pelo exercício heróico das virtudes cristãs. O exemplo destas primeiras crianças de Fátima beatificadas abriu de certo modo caminho a uma nova reconfiguração do religioso, de abertura à santidade também das crianças, nem sempre devidamente valorizadas nas diversas dinâmicas pastorais. João Paulo II, na Homilia na Beatificação de Francisco e Jacinta, a 13 de Maio de 2000 quis explicitamente fundamentar a beatificação de duas crianças que não foram mártires nas palavras de Jesus no Evangelho: "Eu Te bendigo, ó Pai, porque escondeste estas verdades aos sábios e inteligentes, e as revelaste aos pequeninos". O mesmo Papa afirmou na Audiência Geral depois da beatificação: "Assim como em Lourdes, também em Fátima a Virgem escolheu crianças, Francisco, Jacinta e Lúcia, como destinatários da sua mensagem. Elas acolheram-na de modo tão fiel, que merecem não só serem reconhecidas como testemunhas críveis das aparições, mas elas mesmas se tornam exemplo de vida evangélica. (…) com os dois pastorinhos de Fátima a Igreja proclamou Beatos dois jovenzinhos porque, embora não sejam mártires, demonstraram que viviam as virtudes cristãs em grau heróico, apesar da sua tenra idade. Heroísmo de crianças, mas verdadeiro heroísmo" (Audiência, 17-V-2000). O objectivo deste estudo foi o de estudar e aprofundar como é encarada a infância nos vários textos da Sagrada Escritura, da Tradição cristã e do Magistério recente da Igreja Católica romana, com uma metodologia claramente teológica.
- The belief in the moral and intellectual inferiority of poor children in Portugal: a turning pointPublication . Guerra, Joana ValeIn Portugal, the fight against proverty in childhood was considered essential not only to combat “social ills”, and consider new hygienist precepts, but as a defence, a concept of race improvement. The moralization of the poor from childhood was then imposed a State responsibility which forced to create social and hygienic educational assistance institutions based on scientific and pedagogical concepts which did not escape Darwinist and eugenic influences. The then dominant adopted the same corrective pedagogy as responses focused on the field of moral and therapeutic education to curb childhood poverty, mainly when of their shortcomings were social and environmental. This study aims to explain the urgent social policy and trajectory to tackle poverty in childhood, invoking the central role of policymakers receive ideas, science, and knowledge produced about childhood during the First Republic in Portugal. Specifically, the aim here is to highlight the social, political, and cultural context of the urgent Child Protection Law of May 27, 1911. We intend to establish convergences or divergences between the theoretical influences of Herbert Spencer’s social Darwinism and the opportunity to create a Law that is still considered significant and a historic landmark in terms of children’s rights and protection.
- Do Imaculado Coração: a mariana expressão do diferencial órgão de consagração. Uma abordagem filosófico-antropológicaPublication . Silva, Carlos H. do C.O presente artigo pretende considerar o carácter pluridimensional da vida crente a partir da metáfora do coração, como expressão da misericórdia dita de múltiplas formas na piedade e racionalidade crente, mas especialmente na devoção ao Imaculado Coração de Maria. De facto, a fé e piedade não podem dispensar o contributo da razão cordial para uma espiritualidade transformadora e cristificante. Começaremos por relevar o realismo cristão e encarnacional do “coração de Maria”, com seus fundamentos bíblicos e antropológicos, para passarmos, depois, da devoção à teologia e mística. Procuraremos, desta forma, mostrar como a devoção ao Imaculado Coração de Maria assume aqui e agora a possível encarnação, testemunhando o drama calado de tão vasta humanidade desanimada ou sem coração.
- Filmes onde a morte paira: duas faces: Solaris e o quarto do filhoPublication . Capucho, CarlosAo encontro da relevância que a matriz judaico-cristã sempre concedeu ao fenómeno decisivo da morte, o cinema, desde os seus primórdios, sempre construiu narrativas onde aquela realidade está presente. Umas vezes como interrogação/perplexidade, outras exibindo a violência indutora de morte como espectáculo. Um veículo mais específico de morte no cinema é-nos trazido pelo género guerra. Neste quadro, inúmeros realizadores propuseram filmes que revelam a insensatez da guerra como veículo de destruição e de morte. Com Solaris, de Tarkovski, e O Quarto do Filho, de Moretti, pretende-se propor e analisar duas obras cinematográficas que, de forma muito diversa, colocam uma reflexão filosófica, no primeiro caso, e existencial, no segundo, sobre a presença da morte no mundo dos vivos.
- Assistentes sociais e profissões sociais em Portugal: notas sobre um itinerário de pesquisaPublication . Branco, FranciscoVisa-se neste artigo, por um lado, ensaiar uma análise exploratória baseada na apresentação de um conjunto de hipóteses sobre o estado da jurisdição do Serviço Social em Portugal num itinerário analítico guiado pela sociologia das profissões e, por outro lado, apresentar, em termos gerais, a perspectiva analítica que vem sendo sustentada, por trabalhos não filiados na designada tradição americana da sociologia das profissões, da necessidade de um novo olhar sobre as profissões do campo social como requisito para apreender as dinâmicas e mutações que neste âmbito vêm ocorrendo no contexto das transformações do Estado Social e das políticas públicas em resposta à «nova questão social».
