- New targets for Zika Virus determined by human-viral interactomic: a bioinformatics approachPublication . Esteves, Eduardo; Rosa, Nuno; Correia, Maria José; Arrais, Joel P.; Barros, MarleneIdentifying ZIKV factors interfering with human host pathways represents a major challenge in understanding ZIKV tropism and pathogenesis. The integration of proteomic, gene expression and Protein-Protein Interactions (PPIs) established between ZIKV and human host proteins predicted by the OralInt algorithm identified 1898 interactions with medium or high score (≥0.7). Targets implicated in vesicular traffic and docking were identified. New receptors involved in endocytosis pathways as ZIKV entry targets, using both clathrin-dependent (17 receptors) and independent (10 receptors) pathways, are described. New targets used by the ZIKV to undermine the host's antiviral immune response are proposed based on predicted interactions established between the virus and host cell receptors and/or proteins with an effector or signaling role in the immune response such as IFN receptors and TLR. Complement and cytokines are proposed as extracellular potential interacting partners of the secreted form of NS1 ZIKV protein. Altogether, in this article, 18 new human targets for structural and nonstructural ZIKV proteins are proposed. These results are of great relevance for the understanding of viral pathogenesis and consequently the development of preventive (vaccines) and therapeutic targets for ZIKV infection management.
- La lectura bonaventuriana de Aristóteles desde San FranciscoPublication . Pulido, Manuel LázaroIt seems obvious to indicate the importance of St. Francis in Franciscan School thought. Moreover when we talk about the Franciscan theologian and philosopher's Augustinian readings, usually we establish a dichotomy between Aristotelianism and Augustinianism. Often we forgot the figure of St. Francis of Assisi. In this paper we want to point out the saint-Franciscan influence in Augustinianism interpretation of nature in order to complement the bonaventurian reading of Aristotle.
- Factors that interfere with the response of nurses in the monitoring of clinical alarmsPublication . Dinis, Sónia Margarida Meireles; Rabiais, Isabel Cristina MascarenhasObjective:: The objective of the present study was to identify and synthesize the best empirical evidence found on factors that influence the response of nurses regarding clinical alarms. Method:: An integrative literature review was conducted with searches undertaken in ten electronic databases restricted to the period from 2005 to 2016. Results:: Eight articles were included by cross-checking the descriptors selected. Conclusion:: In the analysis of the studies, the following possible factors that might interfere with the response of nurses in the monitoring of clinical alarms were found: high number of false alarms, inaudibility of alarms due to the competition of sounds, difficulty in distinguishing the urgency of alarms, and increase in noise caused by the raise in the number of alarms.

- Simulation of food solar dryingPublication . Ramos, Inês N.; Brandão, Teresa R. S.; Silva, Cristina L. M.This chapter discusses the simulation process of food solar drying, presenting the basic issues of mass and heat transfer under time-varying conditions. Food drying embraces several phenomena, and scientists do not completely understand its underlying mechanisms. However, mathematical simulation and modelling provide comprehensions to improve the knowledge on the drying mechanisms, allow the prediction of the drying behaviour as well as being essential tools in the design of solar drying equipment. The major difficulty in simulating food solar drying arises from variable meteorological conditions that change air temperature, moisture and velocity inside the solar equipment, during the drying process. Therefore, an integrated mass and heat transfer model under dynamic conditions is presented, and appropriate assumptions are discussed. A meteorological model and desorption isotherms are taken into consideration as well. The integrated model includes food’s shrinkage, changing boundary conditions and variable thermal properties and water diffusivity with time and space (non-isotropic characteristics).
- O corpo e o ritoPublication .
- Microstructure, composition and their relationship with molecular mobility, food quality and stabilityPublication . Fundo, Joana F.; Silva, Cristina L. M.Food stability is a critical parameter for both consumers and producers, since it assures safety, nutritional, and sensorial quality of foodstuffs, and at the same time maximizes shelf-life. For a long time, water activity, aw, was considered a determinant parameter in food stability and physical properties. This concept was challenged with the revolutionary approach to the study of food systems using the glass transition concept. Recently, scientific research suggests that molecular mobility is a fundamental approach to fully attain food physical properties and stability. Current literature suggests that stability can only be fully grasped if molecular mobility and structure are taken into consideration; that is, an appropriate understanding of the behavior of food products requires knowledge of its composition, structure, and molecular dynamics, through the three-dimensional arrangement of the various structural elements and their interactions. Food systems are complex mixtures of water, biopolymers, low-molecular weight ingredients, and colloid particles, and the molecular mobility between these different components reflects on the stability of such systems, determining the physical state, microstructure, and composition, which impacts food characteristics. Particularly, food water content, location, and interactions with other components are critical in microbial growth, degradation reactions, and sensorial aspects. Understanding changes in water location and mobility represents a significant step in food stability knowledge, once that water availability profoundly affects chemical, physical, and microbiological quality of foods.
- The parental care partnership in the view of parents of children with special health needsPublication . Alves, João Manuel Nunes de Oliveira; Amendoeira, José Joaquim Penedos; Charepe, Zaida BorgesOBJECTIVE: To understand how the care partnership was experienced by parents of children with special healthcare needs. METHOD: Qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study, carried out from December 2013 to February 2014. The method used was the narrative. The population corresponded to parents of children admitted to a medical service of a Pediatric Hospital in Portugal. The sample consisted of 10 parents. The data collection included the sociodemographic characterization and the etnobiografic orientation interview. Once transcribed, the interviews yielded 10 narratives of partnership experiences between the parents and the nursing team. RESULTS: It was noted, as partnership opportunities, the training of parents and the collaborative decision-making, established in a dynamic, unique and ongoing relational process. CONCLUSION: The opportunities for partnership are key assumptions for the care delivery focusing on the child and on the parents as their resources.
