Resumo(s)
The aim of the present work was to analyze the impact of school’s organizational assessment procedures in the improvement of methods and students’ results. Demands of effectiveness and performance in schools
have been increasing since 1970. Changes in knowledge society, students’ needs and reforms of education
impose increasingly complex and demanding challenges to the School. Educational policies tend to follow
an ‘accountability logic’, trying to raise quality patterns and educational results. Our object of study is the
organizational evaluation and its impacts, constraints and opportunities through the deliberate selection of a
school with systematic and continuous practice of self-evaluation in the pursuit of improvement. By starting
with a qualitative methodology of case study and using the interpretative paradigm, we got the perception
that those impacts tend to be of low significance, as well as the notion that evaluation processes consist
mainly in the accomplishment of a legitimate routine. In order to understand this weakness, we relied upon
the weakly articulated systems, a professional culture characterized by individualism and balcanization and
also the system of professional bonding, making the school organization a prisoner of a paralyzed system.
