- Estratégias dos enfermeiros na gestão do stress no cuidado especializado à pessoa em situação críticaPublication . Nogueira, Inês Carvalho; Ribeiro, Patrícia Cruz Pontífice Sousa ValenteConcern about how we feel in the exercise of our profession is often put to one side, particularly when it comes to delicate issues that require change and even confrontation with peers in order to improve care. Over time, we've seen some concepts emerge that need clarification, such as stress. This concept, although subjective, is present in the provision of nursing care and can condition it, given that nurses are increasingly required to increase their productivity, often without adequate human and material resources. The importance of rapid decision-making and the management of stressful situations during the provision of care to people in a critical situation led to this scoping review, which sought, through the available scientific evidence, to find out the strategies used by nurses to manage stress. This final report duly describes and reflects the experience I had in the three internship contexts I worked in, initially in a general emergency department and then in a pre-hospital emergency department. In these contexts, my specific objective was to help improve the nursing team's ability to respond by acquiring strategies used to manage stress when caring for critically ill people and their families, which led to my practice during my internships, adapting it to the specific characteristics of each location. The activities carried out along the way are the result of the project work carried out in each context, which have allowed me to reflect clearly and substantiatingly in this report on the competences developed, specifically those of the Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing Specialisation for the Critically Ill Person. Conceptually, I anchored myself in the paradigm of transformation, specifically in the School of Caring, based on Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring. Caring is based on scientific, ethical, technical and relational competences aimed at improving the provision of specialised care in a holistic way to the person in critical condition and their family.
