- Adaptation and validation of the coping behavior inventory into European PortuguesePublication . Loureiro, Fernanda; Antunes, Ricardo; Antunes, Ana VanessaBackground: Nursing students are exposed to stress during their nursing program, particularly during clinical practice. Identifying the coping strategies used during this period can help identify resources to mitigate the stress they face.Objective: To translate and validate the Coping Behavior Inventory (CBI) into European Portuguese. Methodology: Methodological study with a nonprobability sample of 113 students attending the four years of the nursing program. To assess the psychometric properties of the instrument, its validity was analyzed using the principal component analysis method and its internal consistency by calculat-ing Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Results: Four common factors were extracted from the exploratory factor analysis, explaining 57.5% of the variance, with a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.668 for the total scale. Conclusion: The European Portuguese version of the CBI has adequate psychometric characteristics and is a reliable tool for assessing the coping strategies used by nursing students.
- Adolescent hope in the context of nursing care: a scoping reviewPublication . Paramos, Ana; Ferreira, Cláudia; Loureiro, Fernanda; Charepe, ZaidaProblem: Hope is a multidimensional concept with a multidisciplinary approach in different areas of health intervention. From the perspective of the discipline of nursing, the concept of hope in the adolescent has been defined. However, its characterization is not consensually established but is necessary for nurses to be able to plan interventions aimed at its promotion. This scoping review aims at mapping the existing knowledge about adolescent's hope in the context of nursing care and contributing to the improvement of nursing interventions.Eligibility criteria: The review was conducted using Joanna Biggs Institute methodology, and was conducted in Pubmed, Cinahl, Scielo, Ebscohost, Open Grey, Mednar, Worldwidescience, and Science Direct. Inclusion criteria included quantitative, qualitative, or mixed studies as well as systematic reviews and opinion articles, published in Portuguese or English, without publication date limitation, with “adolescents” as the population, “hope” as a concept, and “nursing” as context. Overall studies quality was quite high. The extraction of relevant information from each selected article was summarized in a table that is publicly available at Open Science Framework. Sample: A total of 1259 articles were identified by title and 1220 were excluded by abstract.25 empirical articles met the inclusion criteria. Results: The concept of hope in this population was associated with other concepts such as resilience or well-being. Nursing interventions increase hope with positive outcomes in healthy or with chronic/complex diseases adolescents. Conclusion: Hope is an essential component of nursing care for healthy, with chronic or complex disease adolescents with increased interest in the scientific community. Implications:This review recommends orientations for the nursing process with a central focus in address human responses, nursing interventions, and the results of those interventions.

- Can prior hospitalisation experiences influence satisfaction with nursing care? Results in a school-aged children samplePublication . Loureiro, Fernanda; Charepe, ZaidaIntroduction: Patient satisfaction is considered an important and relevant patient outcome in the nursing field [1], and prior hospitalisation experiences have impact in the overall satisfaction with care [2]. Regarding children satisfaction, authors conceptualise satisfaction through the comparison of previous experiences [3]. This study aims to identify if prior hospitalisation experiences influences satisfaction with nursing care, in school-aged children (7–11 years). Materials and Methods: An observational, cross-sectional, exploratory-descriptive study with a convenience sample was performed. Data were collected from January 2015 to December 2016. The "Children Care Quality at Hospital" [4] instrument was used after translation and validation to Portuguese [5]. In this questionnaire children were asked to rate nursing care from 1(less satisfied) to 5 (more satisfied). Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS statistical tool (version 24.0). In order to verify the association between the variable’s prior to hospitalisation experience and patient satisfaction, Student's t-test was applied with a 95% confidence interval. Authorisation was obtained from ethics committees in each of the 6 hospitals were the study was applied, and also from the National Data Protection Commission. Results: In this sample (n = 252) children mean age was 8.9 years (SD = 1.4), and it mainly consisted of boys (52.8%, n = 133). Most children had prior hospitalisation experiences (63.5%, n = 160), 35.7% (n = 90) have never been hospitalised before, and 2 children answered, “I do not know”. Nursing care was rated with a score of 4.51 (SD = 0.645). There was no significant difference between having or not having prior hospitalisation experiences and the score attributed by children (t = 1.47; p =.821). Discussion and conclusions: In this sample, children are satisfied with nursing care provided during hospitalisation. In previous studies with adult population, prior experiences seem to have a negative effect on the overall satisfaction [2,6]. Specifically in school-aged children, previous experiences positively influences satisfaction with nursing care [4]. However, this was not verified in our study. We suggest that further studies should be developed some time after the hospitalisation experience, for example 6 months, to understand the most relevant experiences and their influence on the satisfaction with hospital nursing care.

Uma forma de fomentar a reflexão é pela elaboração de registos estruturados sobre os episódios vivenciados. Apresenta-se a análise de uma prática clínica num contexto de neonatologia que teve como objetivo refletir acerca do estágio curricular procurando o desenvolvimento de competências e a aprendizagem. Foi utilizada enquanto metodologia a ferramenta de análise strengths, weaknesses, opportunities e threats (SWOT). Foi possível identificar aspetos individuais (forças: consciência das capacidades e limitações, a vontade de aprender, a facilidade de comunicação, a relação com a enfermeira tutora; fraquezas: nervosismo e receio) e aspetos ambientais (oportunidades: organização do serviço, diversidade de experiências e ambiente seguro; ameaças: barreiras linguísticas e tempo de estágio). Pela reflexão acerca destes aspetos fundamentados na literatura foi possível o desenvolvimento de competências enquanto futura profissional de enfermagem.
