Abstract(s)
O objetivo do presente estudo é correlacionar a competência intercultural com as
estratégias de gestão de conflito dos trabalhadores no contexto organizacional e analisar o
choque cultural no processo de adaptação a culturas diferentes e desconhecidas.
O estudo presente optou por um desenho de investigação em duas fases para recolha de
dados e análises. Na primeira fase quantitativa do estudo, 69 trabalhadores portugueses na
empresa coreana LG Electronics Portugal, S.A. participaram no inquérito e 3 informantes
principais foram convidados para as entrevistas aprofundadas.
Com os resultados obtidos, verificou-se que a competência intercultural e a gestão de
conflitos no local de trabalho se encontram positivamente correlacionadas e os indivíduos
competentes na interação intercultural escolhem uma estratégia eficaz para gerir os conflitos no
local de trabalho. Adicionalmente, os resultados das entrevistas apresentam que a cultura
empresarial coreana é assimilada pelos trabalhadores portugueses como uma cultura de
hierarquia, machista e introvertida.
The aim of this study is to correlate intercultural competence with worker´s conflict management strategies in the organizational context and to analyze culture shock in the process of adaptation to different and unknown cultures. The present study has opted for a research design in two steps for data collection and analysis. In the first quantitative phase of the study, 69 Portuguese workers at the Korean company LG Electronics Portugal, S. A. participated in the survey and 3 key informants were invited to in-depth interviews. With the results obtained, it was found that intercultural competence and conflict management in the workplace are positively correlated and individuals competent in intercultural interaction choose an effective strategy to manage conflicts in the workplace. In addition, the results of the interviews show that the Korean business culture is assimilated by Portuguese worker as a hierarchical, macho and introverted culture.
