Abstract(s)
The present study carried out in the framework of the Masters Course in Administration and School Organization the Faculty of Human Sciences at the Universidade Católica de Lisboa wants to identify if the Contracts of Autonomy confer the Schools and groups of Schools powers necessary to exercise their autonomy. To this end we analyze the Contracts of Autonomy and Educational Projects of some Schools and groups of Schools. The granting of autonomy to a school was intended in the first place to give it power of decision and organization to provide a rapid response to the local community. That does not seem to have happened on the basis of the documents analyzed. The Contracts of Autonomy signed by twenty-two schools and groups of schools in 2007 could have been a breath of fresh air in the Portuguese Education, a project that could and should have had continuity.
