Abstract(s)
Motivados pelas reflexões derivadas do Seminário “Mente à Sexta - feira”, levado a cabo pelo Instituto de Bioética da Universidade Católica Portuguesa, o presente artigo pretende fazer a revisão dos questionamentos éticos que os avanços das neurociências suscitam no contexto científico actual, no qual são revisitados os conceitos essenciais da definição do
“humanus”.
Os recursos técnicos – especialmente a neuroimagem – associados à investigação
neurocientífica são um desafio e uma oportunidade. Um desafio, porque colocam em causa as tradicionais concepções de condicionamento do agir humano, plasmado no conceito de Liberdade; uma oportunidade, porque são a ensejo de aprofundar a essência do humano na perspectiva integral, ajudando na clarificação dos tradicionais dualismos antropológicos.
Suscitados por este desafio, a neuroética é assim mais do que uma bioética para o cérebro: é a reflexão e o exame das implicações sociais das doenças, normalidade, estilo e filosofia
de vida, suscitando uma abordagem multidisciplinar e progressiva aos problemas
relacionados com o cérebro. No final conclui
-se que a neuroética deverá ser tão vital quanto a genética o foi há umas décadas atrás.
Inspired by reflections derived from the Academic Seminar “Mind on Friday”, conducted by the Catholic University of Portugal Institute of Bioethics, this article aims to do a review of ethical issues that raise from neuroscience advances on modern scientific context, with several implications on the crucial concepts of "humanus". Technical resources - especially neuroimaging - associated with neuroscientific research - is at same time a challenge and an opportunity. A challenge, because puts into question the traditional conceptions of human conditioning and Freedom; an opportunity, because are the chance to develop the “human essence” distinctive helping to clarify the traditional anthro pological dualism. Raised by this challenge, neuroethics is more than a bioethics to the brain: is a reflection and analysis about social implications of disease, normality and philosophy of life, leading to a progressive and multidisciplinary approach to the problems related to the brain. At the end of this article we conclude that neuroethics should be as vital as the genetic advances factors were a few decades ago.
