Os problemas de dependências de uma pessoa estão muitas vezes relacionados com a
sua personalidade e impulsividade. Na literatura, encontramos destacado o vínculo entre a
dependência de videojogos e uma ampla gama de caraterísticas da personalidade, tendo vindo
a emergir a teoria que cada uma destas dimensões e caraterísticas, isoladamente ou, mais
frequentemente, em combinação, podem desempenhar um papel central na aquisição,
desenvolvimento e manutenção desta dependência. Estudos sobre a relação entre
impulsividade e a dependência de videojogos sugerem também que facetas específicas de
impulsividade podem estar ligadas à dependência. Neste sentido, é importante desenvolver
mais pesquisa sobre esta temática, que pode ser crítica para ajudar a entender se o conceito de
dependência de videojogos reflete uma identidade específica e consistente e, se assim for,
qual o padrão (ou padrões) dos traços de personalidade que podem predispor a isso. O
objetivo deste estudo visa explorar a relação entre a dependência de videojogos, a
personalidade e a impulsividade, numa amostra de 191 participantes utilizando instrumentos
que medem o grau de dependência de videojogos, o nível de impulsividade e diferentes traços
de personalidade. Foi possível confirmar a correlação entre aspetos da impulsividade e traços
de personalidade com a dependência de videojogos, bem como diferenças entre sexos,
corroborando assim com estudos anteriores, sendo os resultados aplicados à população
portuguesa.
A person’s addiction problems are often related to their personality and impulsiveness. In the literature, the link between video game addiction and a wide range of personality characteristics has been highlighted, with the theory emerging that each of these dimensions and characteristics, alone or, more often, in combination, can play a central role in acquisition, development and maintenance of this dependency. Studies on the relationship between impulsivity and video game addiction also suggest that specific facets of impulsivity may be linked to addiction. In this sense, it is important to develop more research on this topic, which can be critical in helping to understand whether the concept of video game addiction reflects a specific and consistent identity and, if so, what is the pattern (or patterns) of personality traits that can predispose to it. The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between video game addiction, personality and impulsivity, in a sample of 191 participants using instruments that measure the degree of video game addiction, the level of impulsivity and different personality traits. It was possible to confirm the correlation between aspects of impulsivity and personality traits with video game addiction, as well as differences between genders, thus corroborating with previous studies, with the results being applied to the portuguese population.
