A democratização da Internet revolucionou a maneira de produzir, partilhar e consumir informação, dando origem ao ciberjornalismo que tem vindo a evoluir ao longo das três últimas décadas. Tal mudança implica uma adaptação dos meios de comunicação e, consequentemente, dos jornalistas. De certa forma, esta especialidade do jornalismo veio potenciar o jornalismo de proximidade e uma participação mais ativa dos cidadãos na vida da comunidade. O nosso estudo visa precisamente contribuir para a discussão da questão do ciberjornalismo em Portugal e das suas implicações no jornalismo de proximidade e no jornalismo cidadão. A presente dissertação procura investigar os novos desafios que o jornalismo de proximidade enfrenta tendo como caso de estudo o jornal O Minho, uma publicação regional inteiramente digital. Através de uma metodologia mista, procedemos a uma análise de conteúdo a 206 publicações difundidas na página Facebook de O Minho, assim como a 78 vídeos do canal de Youtube e ao site do jornal, tendo ainda entrevistado o sócio-gerente e o diretor da publicação. Os resultados mostram que o ciberjornalismo potencia o jornalismo de proximidade e a participação dos cidadãos, contribuindo para a publicação de conteúdo mais relevante para as comunidades envolvidas, mas também a discussão de temas estruturantes para os territórios locais.
The democratisation of the Internet has revolutionised the way information is produced, shared and consumed, giving rise to online journalism, which has evolved over the last three decades. This change implies an adaptation of the media and, consequently, of journalists. In a way, this speciality of journalism has boosted grassroots journalism and the more active participation of citizens in community life. Our study aims precisely to contribute to the discussion of the issue of online journalism in Portugal and its implications for grassroots journalism and citizen journalism. This dissertation endeavours to investigate the new challenges facing grassroots journalism, taking the newspaper O Minho, an entirely digital regional publication, as a case study. Using a mixed methodology, we analysed the content of 206 posts on O Minho's Facebook page, as well as 78 videos on the newspaper's YouTube channel and website, and interviewed the managing partner and director of the publication. The results show that online journalism boosts proximity journalism and citizen participation, contributing to the publication of content that is more relevant to the communities involved, but also to the discussion of structuring issues for local territories.
