Abstract(s)
This report was prepared as part of the 8Final Internship and Report9 course unit, which is part of the 17th Master's Degree in Nursing with a Specialisation in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in the area of Nursing for People in Critical Conditions, promoted by the Nursing School (Porto) of Universidade Católica Portuguesa. The internship took place between 2 September 2024 and 26 March 2025. This document describes the training process throughout the course unit, highlighting the process of acquiring, developing and consolidating the skills of the Specialist Nurse and their impact on clinical practice. A descriptive and reflective methodology was adopted, with a critical analysis of the practice, objectives and activities carried out. This report is organised into three parts, the first of which is dedicated to the characterisation of the internship contexts 4 SMIP and INEM (SIV Ambulance) 4 and the relevance of previous professional experience in consolidating skills in caring for people in critical situations. The second part reflects the theoretical basis of the skills development process based on the common and specific skills of the specialist nurse, as established by the Order of Nurses, which are addressed in an articulated and contextualised manner. Through a reflective approach based on the best evidence, interventions focused on the humanisation of care and patient safety were implemented. Of particular note are the review of the literature on the patient diary as a means of preventing SPICI and the analysis of non-technical skills in a pre-hospital context. This process consolidated specialised skills, promoted evidence-based practices and reinforced the role of the specialist nurse as an agent of change. The conclusion reflects the evolution in the acquisition of knowledge and skills in nursing.
