Abstract(s)
The focus of this research paper is to revisit the theorization of leadership in order to explore the possibility and relevance of today to discourse about a leadership of proximity in an organizational context. In order to explore the links between leadership and proximity we focused on the analysis of several model situations in an organizational context. From this conceptual framework, we look at these two concepts as two different realities existing in organizations that pursue reciprocal influences. The empiric part of this paper consisted of 9 in-depth interviews to professionals: 4 leaders of medium and large companies in Portugal, from different branches of activity, as well as 5 subordinates from different positions and companies. It was found that all the companies whose leaders identified themselves with the leadership style of Pope Francis and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, affirmed that they referred to a more humble and more genuine leadership of proximity; revealing, also, a motivation on the part of the leaders, whose leaders were identified with the question nº2 made in the interviews.
