Abstract(s)
The aim of the present dissertation was to verify the perception about the professional identity and activity of psychologists working in organizational context. Furthermore, to understand how a professional working in the Human Resources area, with training in Human Resource Management, considers his own professional activity in comparison with those with a background in Psychology. And finally, in the case of professionals of Human Resources in the area of Work and Organizational Psychology, how the perception of their own professional identity has influenced their well-being at work. A Work and Organizational Psychology professional has a multidisciplinary approach and, for this reason, it becomes extremely complex to define professional identity and to identify the bases of the training in Psychology in the Work and Organizational Psychology area. Professional identity corresponds to the way in which the individual conceives a sense of the self, through the recognition of others. In addition, it became important to verify the perception of Human Resources Management professionals, because they perform the same functions as those of Work and Organizational Psychology. The qualitative method was the most adequate because we evaluated the perspective and interpretation of the participants in relation to the studied phenomenon through nine interviews with Work and Organizational Psychologist and Human Resources Management professionals. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the professionals with both academic backgrounds. In most situations, Work and Organizational Psychology practitioners’ psychologists had a positive identification of their profession. There was an association between those who had an indistinct or negative perception about their identity as a psichologist, and their work functions being distant from the science of Psychology matrix. The study was important beacause it allowed a better understanding of the professional identity of work psychologists and organizations.
