Abstract(s)
A transmissão
Association) (Lobo & Hargie, 2018) e a Segurança Psicológica (Edmonson, 1999).
There has been a lack of research on the role of organizational communication in the hospital context in general and in Portugal in particular. One of the reasons for this has been the lack of suitable measuring instruments. This research aims to explore the role of express communication and psychological safety in physicians in the hospital environment. The transmission of information, proposals, ideas or concerns from managers to workers is evaluated by instruments such as the ICA Audit Survey (Lobo & Hargie, 2018) and Psychological Safety (Edmonson, 1999). The questionnaires were adapted to the Portuguese population, integrating communication items related to the Information I send now and Information that I need to send. These were based on previously validated instruments in the United Kingdom and the USA, and were adapted to the Portuguese context through a translation-retroversion process, maintaining the structure and number of items. The data were collected in randomly selected hospitals and health centers in the districts of Braga, Barcelos and Lisbon. A total of 122 valid answers were obtained. Psychological security predicts 7% of express communication; in the information I need to send according to age, there are statistically significant differences, between the ages of 25 and 40 there is a greater need to send information; in the information I receive now according to gender and age, no statistically significant differences were found; also in psychological safety the results were not statistically significant.
