O Livro do Desassossego é uma das obras mais emblemáticas de Fernando Pessoa/Bernardo Soares e de toda a literatura portuguesa. Composto por centenas de fragmentos sem início, meio e fim concretos, as suas características enquanto espécie de diário íntimo têm fascinado leitores e investigadores durante décadas. Actualmente, o Livro conta com duas traduções japonesas: uma da autoria de Takahashi Kunihiko («不安の書»), e outra de Sawada Nao («不穏の書»). A dissertação analisa sete textos contidos em ambas as traduções e compara o modo como os tradutores abordaram o texto de partida, o que permite salientar semelhanças, diferenças e outros elementos relevantes. Deste modo, esboça-se uma visão geral das especificidades da tradução português-japonês e ilustra-se o modo como as mensagens e significados do texto são transmitidos na língua de chegada. Posteriormente, os resultados são enquadrados em termos de proximidade à estrutura e significado do texto de partida, o que permite concluir que uma das traduções revela maior tendência de adaptação e de proximidade aos padrões da língua de chegada.
Livro do Desassossego (or The Book of Disquiet, as it is known in English) is one of the most emblematic works of Fernando Pessoa/Bernardo Soares and Portuguese literature in general. Composed of hundreds of fragments with no clear beginning, middle and end, its diary-like characteristics have fascinated readers and investigators alike for decades. At present, there are two Japanese translations of the Book available: one by Takahashi Kunihiko («不安の書»), and another one by Sawada Nao («不穏の書»). This dissertation analyzes seven texts contained in both translations and compares the translators’ approaches towards the source text, highlighting similarities, differences and other relevant elements. Through this exercise, an overview of the peculiarities of Portuguese-Japanese translation is outlined, providing a look into how the source text’s messages and meanings are conveyed in the target language. The results are evaluated in terms of proximity to the source text’s structure and meaning, and we arrive at the conclusion that one of the translations shows a higher tendency of adaptation and proximity to the target language’s norms.
