Abstract(s)
contexto institucional.
Outro aspecto
This research paper titled, Acting Professional Social Worker: a case study on the Professional Practice of Social Work at the Center for Occupational Activities of the Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of Mentally Retarded Citizens (APPACDM) Braga, aims reveal the reality of the practice of social work at the Center for Occupational Activities of APPACDM Braga and enable a deeper understanding of the intervention process of Social Workers under the Mental Deficiency. For this research we proceed "a priori" to a deeper theoretical and conceptual Mental Disability, Social Policy in general, and in the Mental Disability field in particular, emphasizing the Social Response, the Center for Occupational Activities, in order to create opportunities to understand the universe of this study. Therefore, we search for contributions of scholars of Social Services to discuss the interventionist nature of this profession, as well as, the dimensions of theoretical, methodological, ethical, and educational, investigative, interactive underlying the practice of Social Work in the institutional context. Based on the objective, we develop an understanding nature of qualitative research, in particular, through the case study, applying the semi-structured interview to a focus group of four social workers, and finally proceed to its transcription and content analysis, listing the four categories in the fourth chapter As a result of our investigation we found that Social Work is a profession as being effective intervention, that is legitimate in society as an element of support and advice, mobilizer, mediator, facilitator and enabler between clients/families and services, constituting thus a trade relations. We note also that the Social Worker uses scientific methods and a technique learned in the academic context and, also, uses creative and innovative strategies to decipher and overcome an ever-changing society. We also verified that the practice of these Social Workers is strengthened and enriched by the existence of a multi and interdisciplinary practice. In addition, the results show that there are some limits and institutional conditions that weaken the autonomy of the Social Worker that come with their own institutional arrangements and current situation. Another aspect is conclusive that the respondents fail to present clearly the (s) theory (s) that supports (m) the practice, which reinforces the dichotomous relationship between theory and practice established within professional since its inception. We conclude that the social worker is faced with a challenge in their ongoing professional practice.
