Abstract(s)
This study aims to analyse and understand the impact of job characteristics, in health professionals, on their work-family relationship, as well as gender differences in this relationship. Specifically, this study analyses job demands and job autonomy and, in the work-family relationship, work-family conflict (WFC) and work-family enrichment (WFE) are considered. It is expected that job demands, especially workload and time pressure, will be positively related to WFC, and that job autonomy presents a positive relationship with WFE. In addition, gender differences in the work-family relationship are also expected. This study followed a quantitative approach with a sample of 97 doctors and nurses, and data were collected using questionnaires. The results indicate a positive relationship between job demands and WFC, and between job autonomy and WFE. However, against the initial expectations, no significant gender differences were found in the work-family relationship. Taken together, this study contributes to a greater knowledge about the impact of job characteristics in the work-family relationship.
