| dc.description.abstract | Na história eclesiástica do século XVI encontra-se um dos mais importantes Arcebispos de Braga, Dom Frei Bartolomeu dos Mártires, nascido em Lisboa, no ano de 1514, entrando, em 1528, para a ordem de São Domingos. Foi nomeado Arcebispo de Braga em 1559. Com o seu estilo simples e austero foi o eco de uma Igreja que queria mudar de paradigma, tendo em conta os grandes desafios do século XVI, procurando combater duas formas de pobreza: intelectual e material. Deste modo, empreendeu grandes reformas para combater a pobreza intelectual e espiritual dos seus diocesanos, sobretudo após a participação no Concílio de Trento. Responsável por uma grande extensão territorial, desde o Minho até Trás-os- Montes, o Arcebispo deparou-se com graves crises económicas e, sobretudo, demográficas, devido às grandes epidemias e pestes que se alastraram por todo o território nacional colocando os bens da Igreja ao serviço dos que mais necessitam. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | In the ecclesiastical history of the 16th century, one of the most important Archbishops of Braga is Dom Frei Bartolomeu dos Mártires, born in Lisbon in the year 1514, joining in 1528 an Dominican Order. He was appointed Archbishop of Braga in 1559. With his simple and austere style, he echoed a Church that wanted to change its paradigm, taking into account the great challenges of the 16th century, seeking to change two forms of poverty: intellectual and material. In this way, it undertook major reforms to combat the intellectual and spiritual poverty of its diocesans, especially after participating in the Council of Trent. Responsible for a large territorial extension, from Minho to Trás-os-Montes, the archbishop understood severe economic and demographic crises, due to epidemics and pests that spread throughout the national territory, putting the Church at the service of those who use it most. | pt_PT |
