Abstract(s)

In this way, it undertook major reforms to combat the intellectual and spiritual poverty of its diocesans, especially after participating in the Council of Trent. Responsible for a large territorial extension, from Minho to Trás-os-Montes, the archbishop understood severe economic and demographic crises, due to epidemics and pests that spread throughout the national territory, putting the Church at the service of those who use it most.
