Abstract(s)
Introdução: O branqueamento é um procedimento estético que tem a capacidade de
alterar morfologicamente as estruturas mineralizadas do dente, nomeadamente a
redução da microdureza superficial, podendo afetar a estrutura do esmalte num
aumento da sua rugosidade superficial e alteração da cor. Ele funciona através da
fragmentação dos compostos pigmentados da dentina, transformando-os em
moléculas de menores dimensões. Com o crescimento do recurso ao branqueamento
e o aumento da preocupação estética dos pacientes, torna-se fundamental avaliar a
forma de atuação dos agentes branqueadores quando em contacto com os materiais
restauradores, nomeadamente as resinas compostas e o tipo de alterações óticas e
estruturais que podem resultar deste procedimento.
Objetivo: O objetivo principal deste estudo é avaliar o efeito dos diferentes agentes
branqueadores (peróxido de carbamida e peróxido de hidrogénio) nas restaurações
de resina composta.
Metodologia: Foi efetuada uma pesquisa eletrónica utilizando PubMed/Medline®,
Cochrane® e Lilacs® com uma estratégia de pesquisa específica combinando as
palavras-chaves com o conector boleano AND. Os estudos pertinentes foram
selecionados e avaliados após leitura do texto completo. A pesquisa e seleção dos
estudos incluídos foram realizados por dois revisores (GRL e RR) de forma
independente.
Resultados: Através da estratégia de pesquisa foram identificados 141 artigos.
Foram removidos os artigos duplicados e através da leitura de títulos e resumos e
foram selecionados 61 artigos para ler na íntegra a fim de avaliar a elegibilidade.
Destes, 45 artigos foram excluídos por não cumprirem os critérios. Foram incluídos
16 estudos na análise qualitativa desta revisão sistemática.
Conclusões: Com este estudo concluímos que na literatura, os resultados não
reúnem consenso relativamente às possíveis alterações na composição da resina
composta quando em contato com os agentes branqueadores. Não obstante,
verificou-se que dependendo das situações pode ser suficiente o recurso ao
polimento. Porém a maioria dos estudos aponta para a necessidade de sua
substituição.
Introduction: Tooth bleaching is an aesthetic procedure that has the skill to morphologically modify the mineralized structures of the tooth, in particular the reduction of surface microhardness, which can affect the enamel structure by increasing its surface roughness and color modification. It works by breaking up pigmented compounds in dentin, transforming them into smaller molecules. With the rising popularity of bleaching and patients' growing concern about their appearance, it's more important than ever to understand how bleaching agents react when they come into contact with restorative materials, such as composite resins, and the types of optical and structural changes that can result the outcome of this operation. Objective: The main objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of different bleaching agents (carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide) on composite resin restorations. Methodology: A PubMed/Medline®, Cochrane®, and Lilacs® electronic search was performed using a specific search mechanism combining keywords with the Boolean connector AND. After reading its every material, relevant studies were chosen and rated. Two reviewers (GRL and RR) independently conducted the search and selection of studies to be included. Results: A total of 141 articles were found using the search algorithm. Duplicate articles were deleted, and 61 articles were chosen to be read in full in order to determine eligibility based on titles and abstracts. 45 items were eliminated due they did not fulfill the criteria. The qualitative analysis of this systematic review includes sixteen papers. Conclusions: With this study it’s possible to conclude that in the literature, the results do not gather consensus regarding the possible changes in the composition of the composite resin when in contact with bleaching agents. Meantime, it was found that, depending on the circumstances, the use of polishing may be sufficient. However, most studies point to the need for its replacement.
