Abstract(s)
This report is part of the Master's Degree in Music Teaching, at the Universidade Catolica Portuguesa, which presents the lessons learned during the Professional Practice, in the areas of Ensemble and Saxophone, as well as a research related to the Project Pedagogical Intervation, entitled "Fingersticks": a didatic material for technical improvement in the alto saxophone. This present pedagogical project consists in the applicability of a didactic material conceived and developed by me, which I called "fingersticks". This tool consists in four small cane sticks (a rundo donax) that are designed to be used for the saxophone practice, placing them, one between the index and middle finger, and other between the middle and ring finger, in both hands. The utility of the "Fingersticks" in the individual daily practicing should function as an important solution of technical problems, giving also an extra motivational way of delevepment in the saxophone study. This PIP was developed as a case study by four saxophone students from the 2nd cycle (Sth grade / 1st degree) at the Conservatory • Professional School of Arts in Madeira, divided into two groups of two elements (experimental and control). The implementation strategy consisted in obtaining audio records of four phases between the two groups, through exercises, chromatic scale, studies, and musical pieces, aided by direct observation. Before implementation, a questionnaire was applied to the students and teacher, to know the situation of each student and then obtain the appropriate exercises for each one level. The high point of this investigation was the performative audition of the students in the end of the 2nd period, that was recorded and aurally analyzed. After that a new questionnaire was carried out by them to assess the evolution and to know the feedback of each Student about this pedagogical material. The results show a huge difference in technical and ergonomic changes with the alto saxophone, affecting positively the artistic skills of the students.
