Abstract(s)
sentidos.
diagnóstico de Síndrome Polimalformativo (i.e, alteração no cromossoma 3).
This study aims to show the benefits of sensory stimulation in a Snoezelen room for children with Special Educational Needs. To do this we draw two objectives: to examine to what extent the importance and frequency of Snoezelen room contributes to the promotion of cognitive and behavioral development of children with Special Educational Needs and infer if the frequency of this therapy contributes to the promotion of learning in children with SEN special. In order to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities, certain equipments can be uses that promotes the development of the differents senses. The Snoezelen rooms are privileged spaces as they make the stimulation of the primary senses possible (eg, touch, taste, sight, sound, smell), without the use of intellectual abilities but the sensory abilities of individuals. Through a qualitative methodological paradigm, we set up a case study, being the participant a female child, aged eight with a diagnosis of Polymalformative Syndrome (change in chromosome 3). This methodological choice is justified by the fact that it is "guided for those of richer content and meaning, that is, the strategic data of each situation" (Olabuénaga, 2003, p.74). Data collection was carried out through non-participative direct observation of the working sessions and the interview technique. These were applied to the therapist Snoezelen room, the teacher and the child's mother. Furthermore, we still use documentary sources: the IEP (Individual Education Plan), records and observation grids. As for results of this study, we conclude that the regular frequency of the Snoezelen room, allowed the child a significant development in terms of capability of concentration and self-confidence, gradually promoting the production of appropriate situational responses. This therapy also contributes to the reduction of stereotypic and maladaptive behaviors, increasing the relaxation levels and collective wellbeing, that is, improving the child's quality of life and all those who interact with it.
