Abstract(s)
This academic work seeks to contribute to the recent theological discussion on the inter-religious dialogue between Christianity and Judaism, taking the human experience of hospitality as its starting point. The Jewish people, which has its origins in Abraham, persists in giving its rich witness of faith and ethical commitment to the world. Christianity becomes heir to the traditional riches of Judaism and, due to historical circumstances, develops its own tradition and wealth. Hospitality places Jews and Christians in a human dialogue, listening to the other, without discussing the articles of faith and without pretensions to achieve the conversion of the interlocutors. This dialogue involves mutual knowledge and acceptance of the “foreigner”, a metaphor for the “other”. In this sense, texts from the extra-biblical Jewish tradition were considered, whose wisdom is often forgotten in the academic field and totally ignored in pastoral work. The reflection topics that conclude this dissertation long to be considered in the practical life of Christian communities.
