Abstract(s)
Leadership plays a predominant role in organizations, being a source of inspiration and empowerment to employees, helping them commit to organizational goals and overcoming challenges. Leadership plays a key role in management, often deciding the success or failure of the organization. The work is an issue widely discussed due to the several transformations that have occurred in recent years: increase of the workload, competitiveness, excess of tasks, among other variables. In this way, it becomes fundamental to study the centrality of the work and the meaning or importance that the collaborator attributes to his occupation. The present research aims, as general objective, to verify the existence of a significant relationship between proactive leadership and work centrality. It is pertinent to explore the classic styles of leadership practiced in organizations, focusing essentially on the construct of proactive leadership. The study was carried out with a sample of 143 workers from the Portuguese active population, through the Centrality of Labor Scale and the Proactive Leadership Scale adapted for the Portuguese population and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Data were analyzed in SPSS, version 21 and the results indicate that there is a relationship between leadership and centrality, although this is not statistically significant. They indicate the existence of a relationship between leadership and centrality, although not one that is statistically significant. They also show that there are statistically significant relationships between leadership and emotions, and between functionality and remuneration. The same didn't apply to the variables gender and number of children.
