- The impact of cancer on healthy siblingsPublication . Marques, Goreti; Araujo, Beatriz; Sá, LuísOBJECTIVE: The objective is to identify the variables that influence the impact of cancer on healthy siblings. METHOD: This is a quantitative, descriptive and correlational study with 83 families of children with cancer. We used the "Questionnaire to Assess the Impact of the Children's Cancer on the Family", "Social Support Satisfaction Scale", "Graffar Scale" and "Apgar Scale". RESULTS: The results show a relation between social support (X²=5.031, gl=1, p=0.025), expenses (t=-2.009, gl=81, p=0.048), disease impact on family structure (t=-3.210, gl=81, p=0.002) and the impact of the disease on healthy siblings. CONCLUSION: Social support plays an important role in these families, especially in the impact of the disease on healthy siblings. Nurses should identify the support systems that families have available, as well as their family functionality and the implications for healthy siblings.

- Rn4cast study in Portugal: validation of the Portuguese version of the Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work IndexPublication . Almeida, Sofia; Nascimento, Ana; Lucas, Pedro Bernardes; Jesus, Elvio; Araújo, BeatrizObjective: This study aims to validate the Portuguese version of the Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index (PES-NWI) and assess construct validity through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study validates the psychometric properties of the PES-NWI in Portugal. Exploratory factorial analysis is used to analyze the psychometric properties of the PES-NWI in a sample of 5,075 Portuguese nurses; the data sample covers all geographic regions in the country. Confirmatory factor analysis is performed to confirm the model’s data adequacy. Results: Factorial analysis explained 54.6% of the variance and a five-dimension structure. The five factors identified were Nurse Participation in Hospital Affairs, Nurse Manager Ability, Leadership and Support of Nurses, Nursing Foundations for Quality of Care, Staffing and Resource Adequacy, and Nurse-Physician Relations. The confirmatory analysis showed that the five-factor model fit well with the data in the Portuguese context. Conclusion: In a Portuguese health context, the PES-NWI is a valid scale to access the nursing environment and improve working conditions.

- Adaptation and validation of the instrument "Children Care Quality at Hospital" for portuguesePublication . Loureiro, Fernanda Manuela; Araujo, Beatriz Rodrigues; Charepe, Zaida BorgesObjective: adapt and validate the instrument Children Care Quality at Hospital (CCQH) to assess the quality of nursing care of hospitalized children for the Portuguese language of Portugal. Materials and Methods: content, language, and conceptual validity methodological study, with translation, feedback, and reflection. A non-probabilistic simple was used of 252 children between 7 and 11 years of age, hospitalized due to acute disease in nine services of six Portuguese hospitals. The reliability and validity of the results were determinedm to measure the psychometric properties of the instrument. Construct validity was calculated through exploratory factor analysis of main components with Varimax rotation and the internal consistency by determining the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Results: the internal consistency has adequate psychometric characteristics suitable for the Portuguese population (Cronbach’s alpha values between 0.66 and 0.82). The instrument maintained 49 items grouped into three categories: characteristics, activities, and environment. The psychometric characteristics of the CCQH, adapted and validated for Portuguese, guarantees its reliability and validity to measure satisfaction with the quality of nursing care from the perspective of school-aged children. Conclusions: the instrument could be used to assess children’s satisfaction with the quality of nursing care during their hospitalization

- Validation of the intellectual capital scale of nursing servicesPublication . Faria, João S.; Rodrigues, Helena S.; Araujo, Beatriz; Valente, CláudiaObjective:Nursing services are considered strategic in the functioning of health organizations, therefore the study of intellectualcapital (human capital, structural capital, relational capital of nursing services) in innovation as a contribution to decision policies, practice and research. The main focus is to promote critical thinking on the condition of nursing services in an innovativeperspective. This study aims to adapt and validate the psychometric properties of the Questionnaire of Intellectual Capital andInnovative Capacity (already used in business management, automobile) and apply it to the Nursing Services (QICICNS).Methods:A cross-sectional and quantitative study was carried out on a sample of 1,388 Portuguese nurses enrolled in the Nurses’Order. For the analysis of the psychometric properties of the instrument we used the factorial analysis of main components withvarimax rotation of the scale items and the calculation of the Cronbach Alpha coefficient. Results:The QICICNS analysis revealed good internal consistency (global scale = 0.95, constructs between 0.83 and 0.97) andgood quality of the items (KMO = 0.95), with four factors being extracted: human capital, relational capital, structural capital andinnovation. Conclusions:The positive indices of internal consistency and the sensitivity of this questionnaire show the validity of thereliable and robust data collection instrument in the studied context. Implications for nursing management: QICICNS, due to itsmultifaceted nature, can be a management tool in the decision making support by nursing managers. The characteristics of eachintellectual capital construct may influence the management of services and future investigations.
