Apesar da consciência crescente da importância das livrarias independentes na paisagem social e cultural das cidades, ainda são poucos os trabalhos académicos que se debruçam sobre esta problemática. Nesta dissertação abordasse o tema das livrarias independentes na cidade do Porto: o que são, como se definem, o impacto positivo que têm na sua comunidade e os desafios que enfrentam no seu dia-a-dia. Este estudo parte duma revisão da literatura existente sobre o tópico e de relatos em primeira mão de livreiros.
Despite growing awareness of the importance of independent bookstores in the social and cultural landscape of cities, there are still few academic works that address this issue. This dissertation addresses the topic of independent bookstores in the city of Porto: what they are, how they define themselves, the positive impact they have on their community and the challenges they face on a daily basis. This study is based on a review of existing literature on the topic and first-hand accounts from booksellers.
