Abstract(s)
Normal occlusion is one that establishes a relationship between the upper and lower arches and a dental position that allows the maintenance of the stomatognathic system. Malocclusion is a craniofacial disorder that can generate deviations of the teeth and jaws from normal alignment, bone discrepancy dentistry and poor relationship of the arches. It occurs due to several factors that may include genetic, specific and environmental conditions. The harmful habits are framed by the environmental factors and are often related to the malocclusions in the primary and mixed dentition. Of the various classifications of malocclusion, we can mention the Angle system, widely used in dental practice and which concerns anteroposterior changes, the topographic classification that distinguishes malocclusions according to the vertical plane, the transversal plane and the sagittal plane among others. Malocclusions are among the most prevalent pathologies and, therefore, constitute one of the biggest oral public health problems. They generate negative impacts on the Quality of Life related to the Oral Health of the affected children and must be treated in a preventive, interceptive and corrective way. Early diagnosis has benefits for the treatment and restoration of masticatory, respiratory and aesthetic functions. The present study makes a narrative review of the literature through 72 scientific articles taken from the database of medical consultation sites such as pubmed / medline, lilacs, bireme and 6 reference books on pediatric dentistry and orthodontics, in order to assist future research and promote knowledge.
