O presente trabalho compreende uma reflexão sobre os populismos e outras ameaças às democracias liberais, em especial pela correlação entre estes e estas. Neste sentido, foi analisado o conceito de Democracia Liberal, à luz da sua evolução e construção histórica, mas também perante a sua aceção atual. Por conseguinte, foi explorado o próprio conceito de Populismo e a ameaça que este representa tanto num plano interno, como a nível internacional. A partir daí, procedeu-se a uma abordagem acerca do conceito controverso de Democracia Iliberal. De seguida, analisou-se o conflito entre populismos e democracias liberais no contexto internacional, onde também se evidenciou alguns problemas inerentes a este. A conclusão é de que, de facto, o populismo representa, por si só, uma ameaça à Democracia Liberal, acarretando com ele demais ameaças não só para esta, como para o próprio Direito Internacional.
This work comprises a reflection on populism and other threats to liberal democracies, especially the correlation between them. In this sense, the concept of Liberal Democracy was analysed, considering its evolution and historical construction, but also in light of its current meaning. Therefore, the very concept of Populism and the threat it represents, both internally and internationally, was explored. From there, we approached the controversial concept of Illiberal Democracy. Next, the conflict between populisms and liberal democracies in the international context was scrutinised, where some inherent problems were also highlighted. The conclusion is that, in fact, populism represents a threat to Liberal Democracy, bringing with it other threats not only to it, but to International Law itself.
