| dc.description.abstract | This dissertation examines, in a general sense, the cultural commitment of corporations in Germany. First, by conceptualising current key concepts referring to Corporate Responsibility, an outline of the theoretical underpinning of the societal commitment of corporations is provided. Subsequently, the recently-defined concept of Corporate Cultural Responsibility will be discussed in light of the tradition of private cultural funding in Germany. The period considered stretches from the industrialisation of Germany to the contemporary globalised economy. The project’s major research strategies consist of a critical literature review plus two case studies presenting best practice examples from Germany. Data have been collected from published corporate reports, international organisations as well as German government documents. The first case study presents an exceptional case of entrepreneurial support for art and culture, the Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft e. V.. The second considers the cultural commitment of the world’s biggest chemical company, BASF SE. Special attention is given to Corporate Cultural Responsibility as the most recent conceptualisation of how corporations offer cultural support. | pt_PT |
