This Report describes the training carried out as part of the internship for the Master's Degree in Nursing with a Specialisation in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in the area of Nursing for the Critically Ill Person, at Nursing School (Porto) of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in the 2024/2025 academic year. The internship took place between September 2024 and March 2025, in two different hospital settings - the emergency department and the intensive care unit - providing crucial complementary experiences for consolidating specialised skills. The activities carried out made it possible to acquire and deepen skills in the four areas of the Specialist Nurse's Common Competences (professional, ethical and legal responsibility; continuous quality improvement; care management; development of professional learning), according to Regulation no. 140/2019, of 6 February, as well as the Specific Competences of the Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the Area of Nursing for the Critically Ill Person, according to Regulation no. 429/2018, of 16 July, both regulated by the Order of Nurses. The specific competences set out in the General Regulations for the Master's Degree in Nursing at Universidade Católica Portuguesa were also taken into account. The interventions carried out favoured care centred on the dignity and safety of the person in a critical situation, the promotion of training moments and team reflection, effective care management, the implementation and reinforcement of infection prevention and control measures. Leadership roles and active participation in quality assessment processes were also carried out, reinforcing the commitment to the continuous improvement of care. Of particular note was an integrative literature review on the applicability of the NEWS scale in emergency services, presented at a scientific event and honoured with the best poster award, highlighting the strong commitment to research and evidence-based practice. The report emphasised the active role of the specialist nurse as a clinical leader and promoter of sustained change, with an impact on the continuous improvement of the quality of care and the professional development of multidisciplinary teams.
