Introduction: Collaboration among professionals, children, and their families is crucial for fostering a supportive environment and overcoming challenges in dental treatment. However, managing children's behavior during consultations remains a significant challenge. This study aimed to develop a qualitative clinical study protocol to evaluate parents' perceptions of various behavior management techniques and to assess the primary tools available for such evaluations. Materials and Methods: A qualitative clinical study protocol was developed and registered in the OSF database. A systematic review was conducted to identify tools previously used in qualitative studies on behavior management techniques, utilizing the PUBMed database. Results: The qualitative clinical study protocol was approved by the Health Ethics Committee of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. The systematic review initially identified 251 articles from PUBMed, of which 14 were selected after screening. The most prevalent study type was the cross-sectional study (7 mentions), and the most frequently used behavior management tool was the Wong–Baker Faces Rating Scale (3 mentions). Conclusion: Qualitative studies on the perception of behavior management in children within the dental setting are essential for enhancing scientific evidence in this field. The Wong-Baker Faces Rating Scale was noted for its quick application, ease of interpretation, and applicability without extensive training, despite its inherent subjectivity.
