Abstract(s)
Introduction: The school, which is promoting the development of personal, cognitive and socio-emotional skills, becomes the space where children and young people, individually and/or in groups, learn to manage their health effectively, as well as to act about the influencing factors. Community Health Nursing, within the scope of school health and in accordance with the National School Health Program, plays an important role in promoting health literacy among young people. Within the scope of the Master's Degree in Nursing, with Specialization in Community Health Nursing, in the areas of Community Health and Public Health, the opportunity arises to develop a project to promote health literacy in emerging priority areas, in a professional school in Porto. Method: The planning and implementation of the project took place from September 2023 to January 2024, with the target population being students in the 1st grade (equivalent to the 10th grade of regular education) of a professional school and with the help of partnership of a Community Care Unit, both in Porto. Results: The data revealed a lack of knowledge in all areas diagnosed, highlighting the existence of a high number of health problems, which is why it was necessary to use the Hanlon methodology followed by consulting experts to determine priorities. It was decided, in the first phase, to intervene at the level of Postural Education and Addictive Behaviors without Substance, so objectives were set, strategies were selected, planning, execution and evaluation of the intervention. As a way of measuring the health gains obtained, a final evaluation questionnaire was applied (adapted from the data collection instrument), highlighting the acquisition of knowledge in terms of the following points: transporting school materials in a backpack; carry the backpack with straps on both shoulders; store school supplies in the locker and use them more frequently; sitting position, in which the feet are completely supported on the floor, forming a 90º angle with the knees and also with regard to the habit of playing and purchasing games of chance. Conclusion: It was an enriching project, particularly regarding the assessment of the health status of a community and its training. However, the reduced adherence to the final questionnaire probably reflects results that are not representative of the target audience present in the health education sessions, meaning that it is not possible to clarify the true impact of this project in the context of health literacy.
