Quality of Life, Psychopathology and Treatment Programs are fundamental variables for the treatment of drug addiction. Furthermore, these variables present complex and straight relations among themselves. In this study, we try to understand these relations. With a sample of 47 drug addicts from CRI de Braga, and using as instruments WHOQOL-Bref and BSI, besides one Social-Demographic and Clinical questionnaire, we evaluate the Quality of Life and the Psychopatology of these same users. Next, we proceed to the analysis of the relations between the variables in study. Our hypotheses were that subjects with better Quality of Life would also present lesser levels of Psychopathology, and vice-versa. In addition, we also study the differences in Quality of Life and Psychopathology between subjects inserted in different Treatment Programs (methadone, naltrexone, buprenorphine, and psychotherapy only). We analyse, also, Quality of Life and Psychopathology in relation to other variables fundamental for the treatment of drug addiction, such as, Abstinence, Treatment Time and Election Drug (heroin and cocaine). We verified if there were significant differences in the Duration of the Treatment between different Treatment Programs. The results of our investigation show that there exists a straight correlation between Quality of Life and Psychopathology (R = -.58, P =0.000) in drug addiction. Furthermore, they discriminate in which points that correlation is stronger and weaker. We also find significant differences in Quality of Life and Psychopathology of subjects inserted in different Treatment Programs (methadone and buprenorphine). We verified that Abstinence is fundamental for the success of treatment, and that the Duration of Treatment by its own cant explain improvements in Quality of Life and Psychopathology. We didnât find any differences in Quality of Life and Psychopathology of patients with different Election Drugs, as also as we didnât find any difference in the Time of Abstinence between different Treatment Programs. We conclude our investigation with an interpretation of these same results.
