Abstract(s)
A presente investigação tem como objetivo o estudo da tradução para voz de poesia concebida em Língua Gestual Portuguesa (LGP). Assim, a questão orientadora do presente trabalho pode ser formulada nos seguintes termos: Será possível empreender uma tradução para voz, fiel aos enunciados poéticos concebidos em Língua Gestual Portuguesa? Será este processo viável? Como se pode fazer esta tradução? Que vantagens é que traz esta tradução?
No intuito de estudar e verificar a perspetiva dos poetas surdos relativamente à poesia em Língua Gestual, à poesia em LGP e ainda à tradução de poesia em LGP, procedeu-se à aplicação de questionários em entrevistas individuais. O resultado desta metodologia veio testemunhar um claro ceticismo por parte dos poetas surdos no que respeita à tradução para voz de poesia concebida em LGP. Por um lado sentem que a tradução dos enunciados poéticos é importante mas por outro lado não querem que a mesma seja realizada por motivos de ordem vária.
Perante os resultados apurados prosseguiu-se o estudo com a aplicação de uma metodologia paralela com vista a desafiar a conceção dos poetas surdos face à tradução. Assim, procedeu-se à realização de um estudo prático e exploratório, de análise e de tradução, de enunciados poéticos concebidos em LGP, realizados com base nas categorias de análise de textos poéticos em LGP apresentadas na parte de enquadramento teórico deste trabalho (parte 1) nas ideias dos inquiridos e finalmente na experiência e know-how da investigadora enquanto intérprete de LGP. A aplicação desta metodologia revela que apesar de todas as dificuldades encontradas e de todas as exigências inerentes ao processo de tradução poética, a tradução para voz de enunciados poéticos concebidos em LGP é viável e permite a divulgação da Língua Gestual Portuguesa bem como da comunidade surda, sensibilizando a sociedade, em geral para a cultura surda, nomeadamente para a existência de poesia em LGP, como forma de expressão artística.
This study aims at examining voice translation of poetry conceived in Portuguese Sign Language – Língua Gestual Portuguesa – LGP). The overall question for this study may be formulated as follows: Is it possible to undertake a faithful voice translation of poetic texts that were first conceived in Portuguese Sign Language? How can such a translation be undertaken? What are its advantages? In order to account for the deaf poets’ perspetive over sign language poetry, poetry in Portuguese Sign Language and the translation of poetry in Portuguese Sign Language, a questionnaire was implemented during individual interviews with a selected sample of poets. The results of this methodology was that deaf poets are very skeptical towards voice translation of Portuguese Sign Language Poetry. On the one hand, they feel that such translation is desirable and important; on the other hand they do not wish it to be performed for various reasons. Given these results, a parallel methodology was implemented with the aim of challenging the deaf poets’ skeptical view of translation. A practical and exploratory study of a selection of poetic texts was conducted, based on the analytical categories presented in the theoretical framework laid out in Part I, on the ideas of the respondents and relying on the expertise and know-how of the author, who is a sign language translator. The application of this methodology led to the conclusion that despite all challenges and difficulties and all demands that are inherent to the process of poetic translation, voice translation of poems conceived in Portuguese Sign Language is possible and helps raise awareness towards Portuguese Sign Language, as well as toward the deaf community. Further, this translation may be a means of raising awareness in society towards deaf culture, in particular to the existence of signed poetry as means of artistic expression
