Abstract(s)
Esta dissertação teve como objetivo investigar de que forma o género influencia o contexto de uso de substâncias e intervenção, na perspetiva de profissionais desta área. Mais especificamente, procura compreender os desafios de mulheres e comunidade LGBT neste contexto, avaliar o conhecimento dos profissionais sobre recomendações específicas para questões de género e verificar se estas são aplicadas. Além disso, procurou-se explorar as perceções dos profissionais quanto a práticas que consideram essenciais para implementar nas suas instituições. Foram realizadas entrevistas aprofundadas a 13 profissionais, com idades entre 22 e 56 anos, que atuam em seis contextos de intervenção distintos: salas de consumo assistido, equipas de rua, equipas de intervenção em contextos recreativos, comunidades terapêuticas, centros de respostas integradas e comissões para a dissuasão da toxicodependência. Os resultados revelam que, de acordo com os profissionais, mulheres e pessoas LGBT enfrentam desafios significativos no uso de substâncias e na intervenção, destacando-se obstáculos relacionados com a vulnerabilidade acrescida dessas populações, os estereótipos de género e o trabalho sexual que mais frequentemente exercem para sustentar o consumo de substâncias. Na perspetiva dos profissionais, embora algumas recomendações para a maior sensibilidade às questões de género estejam a ser implementadas, persistem aspetos negativos que requerem intervenção. Algumas das sugestões de mudança que os técnicos abordam ao longo das entrevistas é a criação de respostas de sensibilidade e equidade e formação e capacitação dos profissionais e da própria comunidade. Conclui-se que, embora existam medidas para proporcionar maior segurança e conforto a mulheres e pessoas LGBT no contexto de intervenção, o progresso realizado até ao momento é insuficiente. Torna-se, assim, necessário um compromisso contínuo e gradual para implementar mudanças que respondam de forma eficaz às necessidades destas populações.
This dissertation aimed to investigate how gender influences the context of substance use and intervention, from the perspective of professionals in this field. More specifically, it seeks to understand the challenges of women and the LGBT community in this context, assess professionals' knowledge of gender-specific recommendations and verify whether these are applied. In addition, it sought to explore professionals' perceptions of the practices they consider essential to implement in their institutions. In-depth interviews were conducted with 13 professionals, aged between 22 and 56, who work in six different intervention contexts: assisted consumption rooms, street teams, intervention teams in recreational contexts, therapeutic communities, integrated response centers and commissions for the deterrence of drug addiction. The results show that, according to the professionals, women and LGBT people face significant challenges when it comes to substance use and intervention, highlighting obstacles related to the increased vulnerability of these populations, gender stereotypes and the sex work they most often do to support substance use. From the professionals' perspective, although some recommendations for greater sensitivity to gender issues are being implemented, there are still negative aspects that require intervention. Some of the suggestions for change that the professionals mentioned during the interviews were the creation of sensitive and equitable responses and the training and empowerment of professionals and the community itself. The conclusion is that although there are measures to provide greater safety and comfort for women and LGBT people in the intervention context, the progress made so far is insufficient. A continuous and gradual commitment is therefore needed to implement changes that respond effectively to the needs of these populations.
