Abstract(s)
This report is produced as the result of the apprenticeship developed in the area of Child Health and Paediatrics, within the third degree of the Masters with Specialisation in Child Health and Paediatrics Nursing by the Instituto de Ciências da Saúde of Oporto (ICS) of Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP), and it serves as a document for evaluation purposes in order to obtain the degree of master in the correspondent area. The apprenticeship consisted of three modules, which were carried out in the service of Paediatrics of Matosinhos Local Health Unit, at the Senhora da Hora Health Centre and at the Paediatrics Emergency Service of São João Hospital. The main aim was to carry out a critic/ reflexive analysis of the activities developed, so as to show the process of development of skills, and also to show the skills which were a result of the professional path already undertaken, which is mobilised and integrated in the professional exercise currently being developed in a Neonatology Service. The report was organised bearing in mind the different domains of skills within the professional nursing exercise – Care Providing, Management, Training and Investigation, so as to ensure a better understanding of the presented contents, especially as far as the skills developed throughout the apprenticeship are concerned. As it is acknowledged that the whole process of assistance provided to the child should also involve their family, the parental role assumes a major focus, thus constituting a transversal objective to all apprenticeships. The fusion of theoretical knowledge with practice, as well as the reflection upon the latter, enabled the construction of a professional identity as a Child Health and Paediatrics specialist nurse, following a dynamic learning process.
