No que diz respeito a lesões músculo-esqueléticas, a Medicina Dentária tem uma posição destaque. O trabalho exigente associado à falta de experiência do estudante de Medicina Dentária contribui para a aquisição de vícios posturais que se podem manter na atividade profissional futura. Os principais objetivos deste trabalho são: avaliar a posição de trabalho de Médicos Dentistas e dos Estudantes de Medicina Dentária e compará-las; identificar as consequências de posturas erróneas; relacionar a presença de lesões músculo-esqueléticas com a postura e determinar a importância da ergonomia na formação pré-graduada de Médicos Dentistas. Realizou-se um estudo observacional transversal, através da aplicação de um questionário de auto-preenchimento aos Estudantes do 4º e 5º anos do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Dentária e aos Médicos Dentistas docentes do Instituto de Ciências da Saúde da Universidade Católica Portuguesa – Viseu. A amostra foi composta por 68 Estudantes que realizam prática clínica e 18 Médicos Dentistas docentes. Os resultados mostraram que 60,29% dos Estudantes e 72,22% dos Médicos Dentistas apresentaram alguma dor ou desconforto osteomuscular nas diferentes regiões do corpo.
Dental medicine plays a major role on musculoskeletal disorders. The work is very demanding and requires knowledgeable and skilled Medicine students. The lack of professionals in this area may contribute to postural vicious that can prevail for the whole career. The main aims of this work are: to evaluate both Dentist and students working positions and compare them; highlighting the consequences of wrong body postures and its associated role on musculoskeletal lesions and determine the importance of ergonomics in the undergraduate training of Pratctitioners. A crosssectional study was performed by application of individual questionnaire to graduate students from the fourth and fifth year of Master degree in dentistry from the Institute of Health Sciences of the Portuguese Catholic University-Viseu. Samples consisted of 68 interviews with students performing clinical practices as well as 18 practitioner’s teachers. The outcomes of this study revealed that 60.3% and 72.2% of students and professionals dentists, respectively, had some physical pain or musculoskeletal discomfort in different regions of their body.
