É fascinante trabalhar sobre Santo Afonso Maria de Ligório, padroeiro dos moralistas e confessores no âmbito da benignidade, tendo em conta a metodologia «socio-biográfica», isto é, correlação do pensamento afonsiano com os condicionamentos biográfico, sociais e eclesiais.
Entusiasmou-me por ser um homem que apesar de ter nascido em 1696 numa família nobre, tornando-se advogado, todavia, devido a corrupção daquela época, tomou uma decisão definitiva de abandonar os tribunais.
Percorre novo rumo, abraça a vida sacerdotal. Ao desempenhar paulatinamente o seu ministério apercebe-se:
- Da degradação da moral e arregaça as mangas para dar novo rosto diante da situação conturbante. À luz do Concílio de Trento reforça a implementação a renovação da moral, nos seminários, para que o clero tivesse um conhecimento global nesta matéria, sobretudo no campo pastoral e também quando atendiam as confissões. Escreve a Teologia Moral para ajudar a resolução de alguns problemas.
- Compreende, na evangelização, os excluídos da sociedade, os mais abandonados e, por isso, funda a Congregação dos Missionários Redentoristas em 1732.
Is fascinanting to work on Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, patron of moralists and confessors, due to his evangelical benignity and taking into account a «sociobiographic» methodology, i.e., correlation between the alphonsian thought and the biographic, social and ecclesial conditionings? It thrilled me to know this man, who despite being born in 1696 in a noble family to become a lawyer, however, due to corruption of that time took the irreversible decision to leave the courts. Alphonsus sets a new course, embracing priesthood. And, gradually performing his ministry realizes: - The moral degradation of society, leading him to «roll up his sleeves» giving new face upon the troublesome situation. In light of the Council of Trent, reinforces the moral implementation and his renewal in seminars, in order to endow the clergy a wider knowledge on this matter, especially in the pastoral field and specifically during confession. Writes a Moral Theology to help the resolution of some serious problems. - The excluded of society, the most abandoned, founding the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer in 1732.
