Abstract(s)
With this dissertation, we will offer a study of the theological interpretation of the symbology of bread. We will study some texts from the Old Testament and New Testament, from which progressiveness in this symbology will be evident. While in the Old Testament, a physical meaning of bread prevails, in the texts of the New Testament, the symbology of bread achieves, in the person of Jesus Christ, an understanding and a definitive meaning unique in all Biblical revelation. The physical bread becomes the very person of Jesus Christ, who offers himself as a gift and nourishment for the world's life. The dissertation has three chapters: in the first two chapters, we will present and study some explicit references to bread in the Old and New Testaments, while in the third, we will focus on the person of Christ who introduces himself as the true bread from heaven who comes to give life to the world. Our goal is to understand the reality of which bread is a part, aware that there is an intrinsic relationship of reciprocity between the symbolic and the reality it embeds.
