Abstract(s)
It is factual that inequality in income distribution has increased in developed countries in the last decades, particularly after the 2007 international financial crisis and the subsequent recession. The European countries followed this trend, namely the Member States of the Eurozone. What is, then, the relationship between GDP per capita and income inequality in the Eurozone, from the beginning of the financial crisis? Or otherwise, what is the shape of the Kuznets curve in the Eurozone for the period after the beginning financial crisis until nowadays? To answer this question, this research paper estimated a Kuznets curve for the Member States of the Eurozone in the period 2007-2012. Contrary to the inverted U shape normal Kuznets curve, the obtained result was a U-shaped Kuznets curve. In the period under analysis, income inequality increased with GDP per capita in the Euroz Zone Member States.
