A presente investigação pretende, através do estudo da instalação Escultura dentro da floresta (1968-1969), explorar os processos de documentação de arte contemporânea, considerando a importância da dimensão conceptual na tomada de decisão. A obra Escultura dentro da floresta, pertencente à coleção da Fundação de Serralves, foi idealizada e criada por Alberto Carneiro no final da década de 60. Ao longo dos anos, a instalação tem sido exposta com variações que podem não ir ao encontro da conceptualização do artista. A montagem da obra é um processo complexo que exige um elevado conhecimento das suas características conceptuais e formais, pelo que a instituição pretende que seja definido um modelo expositivo que facilite a montagem e uniformize a leitura nos momentos de exposição. A união entre a reflexão teórica e a análise metodológica permitiram a definição e aplicação da estratégia de documentação, que procurou responder às necessidades da obra através do envolvimento dos agentes interessados (família do artista e instituição) na tomada de decisão. As respostas encontradas resultam do constante questionamento perante a definição de um modelo expositivo, cujas tentativas de uniformizar os momentos de montagem podem inadvertidamente excluir outras interpretações e possibilidades, limitando assim a potencial materialização e conceptualização da obra de arte.
The study of the installation Escultura dentro da Floresta (1968–1969) aims to explore the processes of contemporary art documentation, considering the pivotal role of the conceptual dimension in decision-making. This artwork, which is part of the Fundação de Serralves collection, was conceptualised and created by Alberto Carneiro towards the end of the 1960s. Over the years, the artwork has been exhibited with variations that may not meet the artist's conceptualisation. Installing the artwork is a complex process requiring in-depth knowledge of its conceptual and formal characteristics. The institution therefore wishes to define an exhibition model that facilitates the installation process and standardises interpretation during exhibitions The strategy for documenting the work was defined and applied thanks to a combination of theoretical reflection and methodological analysis. This strategy involved the interested parties (the artist's family and the institution) in the decision-making process in an attempt to ensure that the work's needs were met. The solutions found are the result of constant questioning facing the challenge of defining an exhibition model, whose attempts to standardise installation may inadvertently exclude other interpretations and possibilities thereby limiting the potential materialisation and conceptualisation of the artwork.
