Abstract(s)
sociodemográficas (a idade, género, escolaridade...).
The internet has made significant progress over the last decade, becoming a resource used daily by people as a way to relate, find information, work and even escape reality. Nowadays, the age of using the internet is getting younger and younger, leading to opportunities but also risks. It is found that online risk behaviors can be prevented through parental supervision and protection. Thus, the main objective of the study is to verify the role of parental mediation in online risk behaviors in students from 10 to 13 years old. More specifically: describe application use and online risk behaviors; explore the differences in parental mediation and online risk behaviors as a function of sociodemographic variables; to assess the relationship between parental mediation and online risk behaviors. The sample consists of 355 students, aged between 10 and 13 years old attending two schools in the district of Braga. To collect data, a questionnaire adapted from the Parental Mediation scale (Yubero, Larrañaga, Navarro, & Elche, 2018) and the Online Risk Behaviors scale (Rodríguez-de-Dios, van Oosten, & Igartua, 2018) was created. The results indicate that there is no adequacy of parental mediation scale factors in the Portuguese version compared to the original version. However, it was possible to find an alternative solution from the theoretical point of view and with psychometric data. Significant differences were found as a function of sociodemographic variables (age, gender, education ...). We also found a statistically significant relationship between parental mediation and online risk behaviors
