| dc.description.abstract | In June 2021, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that Operation Barkhane would come to an end in 2022. This announcement came while Paris had been involved in a bitter conflict against jihadist groups in the Sahel for more than seven years. Drawing on newly available empirical data, this study provides through the prospect theory approach to foreign-policy decision-making and process tracing an explanation for this particular outcome. Some had identified that the short-term events were responsible for the end of Operation Barkhane in 2022. This investigation brings forth elements indicating that the aggregation of long-term limitations to the French strategy in the Sahel had a significant part to play in this decision. | eng |
| dc.description.abstract | Em Junho de 2021, o Presidente francês Emmanuel Macron anunciou que a Operação Barkhane iria acabar em 2022. Este anúncio foi feito enquanto Paris estava implicado num conflito impiedoso contra grupos jihadistas na região do Sahel há mais de sete anos. Baseando-se em novos elementos empíricos, este estudo traz, através do abordagem teórico da perspectiva no processo de decisão da política externa e com a técnica de rastreamento de processo, uma explanação por este particular desenlace. Alguns tinham identificados que os acontecimentos direitamente antes do fim da operação eram responsáveis para o fim de Barkhane em 2022. Esta investigação apresenta elementos indicando que as agregações das limitações no longo prazo da estratégia francesa no Sahel tiveram um papel significativo nesta decisão. | por |
