Ao longo dos anos, as mulheres lutaram para participar em diversas áreas da sociedade. O
jornalismo não foi excepção. Com o avançar dos tempos e, consequentemente, com a
conquista de vários direitos, as mulheres puderam aceder ao jornalismo e às suas diferentes
vertentes.
Apesar disto, o jornalismo desportivo continua a ser uma área dominada por homens. Numa
sociedade em que se advoga cada vez mais a igualdade de direitos e oportunidades importa
saber porque é que este fenómeno se verifica e desenhar uma possível evolução para os
próximos anos.
É necessário entender se existem entraves à entrada das mulheres no jornalismo desportivo,
e, se sim, que tipo de entraves (discriminação, falta de oportunidades, por exemplo. Ou se,
por outro lado, o desporto é uma área que não desperta grande interesse às jornalistas.
Throughout the years, women struggled to participate in numerous areas of society. Journalism was no exception. As we moved forward and, consequently, with women’s conquest of various rights, women were able to access journalism and its different aspects. Nevertheless, sports journalism remains a male-dominated area. In a society that advocates for gender equality and equal opportunities, it is increasingly important to know why this happens and to draw phenomenon possible developments in the next years to come. It is necessary to understand if there are barriers to women’s entry in sports journalism, and if so, what type of barriers do exist (discrimination, lack of opportunities, for example). Or if, on the other hand, sports is not an area of great interest to women journalists.
