This study had as its overarching goal identifying and detailing the cannabis consumption patterns in conflicted youths, exploring the significance that these youths attribute to the consumption, and understanding how this factor is accounted for during interventions. An analysis was done on previously collected data from conflicted youths’ case studies in a portuguese context and, afterwards, new data was collected via a questionnaire administered to a similar population. The collected results allowed us to identify the frequency, timings and places were consumption occurred as well as the motivation for this behavior. It was possible to ascertain that this consumption has relevance in both the social and personal aspects of youths’ lives, bringing them positive as well as negative consequences and being perceived as either a normative behavior or a source of conflict. Although during interventions consumption is unadvised due to the risks it might entail, it was concluded that youths don’t feel discriminated against or reprimanded. The approach to consumption that youths seem to prefer is one that promotes minimizing risk and adopting adequate consumption patterns, instead of a prohibitive attitude from professionals.
