Abstract(s)
A frequente exposição
atividade profissional.
e a faixa etária. Este estudo foi realizado utilizando o “Professional Quality of Life”,
The professional quality of life is a crucial factor for the success of workers and for the success of the organization. Veterinarians are exposed to suffer and pain of the animal / owner. The constant exposure to the suffering can generate serious damages to the physical and psychological health that will affect the professional activity. The prolonged exposure to Secondary Traumatic Stress may lead to a state of exhaustion called Compassion Fatigue. However, the satisfaction that the professionals feel in being able to help the others, makes them feel rewarded for the effort. The aim of this study is to know in which way the Compassion Fatigue and the Compassion Satisfaction can affect the professional quality of life of the veterinarians. This study was performed using the "Professional Quality of Life" version 5 (ProQOL5) by Beth Stamm. The sample is made up of 1425 veterinarians, using an online questionnaire. The results of the study demonstrated that there are no significant differences between the male and female gender in relation to Compassion Satisfaction; on the contrary, the results of the Burnout and the Secondary Traumatic Stress showed that they affect more women than men. There is a gradual increase of Compassion Satisfaction over the years, contrarily, the results of Burnout and Secondary Traumatic stress have shown that there is a decrease over the years, agreeing with the existing literature.
