A pessoa age quando faz com que algo aconteça. O agir é movido por realidades distintas em cada pessoa, decorre de uma intencionalidade que move para a realização determinado ato.
O voluntariado é expressão do exercício livre de cidadania ativa e solidária, de sentimento de pertença à comunidade e atitude ética cívica. A solidariedade advém da preocupação do eu para com a dignidade de um outro. Adela Cortina considera a solidariedade como indispensável à sobrevivência humana, porque o ser humano é ser pessoal e ser social. Ao voluntariado estão também implícitos a gratuidade, a solicitude, a responsabilidade, o compromisso, entre outros valores e princípios éticos e bioéticos.
Este estudo envolve a participação de enfermeiros e médicos, que realizam atividades de voluntariado no âmbito das suas profissões, respondendo a necessidades em saúde, perante situações de particular vulnerabilidade.
Pretendemos, como objetivo geral, refletir sobre os contextos e o perfil ético dos enfermeiros e médicos que exercem voluntariado no âmbito da sua profissão.
Estudo de natureza exploratória e descritivo, partindo das vivências dos participantes como voluntários, tendo-se desenvolvido em duas etapas. Na primeira foi aplicado um questionário com questões fechadas e questões abertas, onde obtivemos 178 respostas; na segunda etapa, realizámos entrevistas a quinze dos participantes da primeira etapa.
A investigação é predominantemente qualitativa. Os dados obtidos nas respostas às questões abertas do questionário e nas entrevistas foram submetidos a análise de conteúdo segundo Laurence Bardin. Para o tratamento dos dados quantitativos, confinado à caracterização sociodemográfica e profissional dos participantes e a alguns elementos específicos do voluntariado, recorreu-se à estatística descritiva; em algumas das variáveis incluímos tabelas de referência cruzada.
As narrativas escritas e faladas dos participantes permitem:
a) Aprofundar a compreensão sobre as motivações que sustentam a decisão de se tornar voluntário no âmbito das suas profissões;
b) conhecer o perfil sociodemográfico e profissional;
c) conhecer a perceção dos participantes sobre os contributos do voluntariado para os outros, para si próprio, para a atividade profissional e para a sociedade;
d) identificar valores e princípios éticos e bioéticos que envolvem a prática do voluntariado de enfermeiros e médicos no âmbito das suas profissões.
O estudo permite obter contributos para a elaboração de um plano de voluntariado a integrar nos cursos de licenciatura em enfermagem.
A person acts when they make something happen. That act is moved by distinct realities in each person as it comes from one intentionality that leads them to the execution of a certain act. Volunteering is the expression of free exercise of active and solidary citizenship of the feeling of belonging to a community and civic ethical attitude. Solidarity derives from the concern of myself towards the dignity of the one other. Adela Cortina considers solidarity as indispensable to human survival because the human-being is a personal and a social being. Also implicit to volunteering are gratuity, solicitude, responsibility, commitment, among other ethical and bioethical values and principles. This study involves the participation of nurses and physicians that practice volunteering within the scope of their professions, aiming to satisfy the health needs under situations of particular vulnerability. As a general purpose, our aim is to reflect upon the contexts and the ethical profile of the nurses and physicians that practice volunteering within the scope of their professions. A study of exploratory and descriptive nature, which stems from the participants’ experiences, developed in two phases. On the first phase, it was implemented either with close-ended and open-ended questions, where we obtained 178 answers. On the second phase we carried out interviews to 15 of the participants from the first phase. The research is predominantly qualitative. The data obtained from the answers to the open-ended questions and from the interviews were submitted to content analysis, as according to Laurence Bardin. To analyse the data, confined to the sociodemographic and professional characterisation of the participants and to some specific features of volunteering, it was used descriptive statistics. In some of the variables were included cross-reference tables. The participants’ written and spoken narratives have allowed: a) To deepen the understanding about the motivations that support the decision of becoming a volunteer within the scope of their professions; b) to know the sociodemographic and professional profile; c) to know the participants’ perception about the contributes of volunteering to others, to themselves, to the profession and to the society; d) to identify ethical and bioethical values and principles that encompass the practice of volunteering of nurses and physicians within the scope of their professions. The study allows to obtain input to the elaboration of a plan of volunteering to incorporate within nursing degree courses
