Abstract(s)
This dissertation consists of a case study on indiscipline, in students from 5th to 9th grades, from a private catholic school, considering its disturbing potential in the teaching-learning process. Hence, one attempted to disclose the different readings the actors in the school had of the phenomenon. For this purpose, the research was held embracing a mixed method, mainly qualitative, collecting data by gathering and analysing occurrence reports and holding focus groups, guided by semi structured interviews. Opinions were heard from students with and without occurrence reports, teachers of different levels and areas of expertise and non-teaching staff as to understand their concept of indiscipline, to identify behaviours perceived as disturbing and to measure the effectiveness of the formal and informal procedures adopted. Likewise, literature was reviewed to provide a theoretical framework. The study led to the conclusion that, though one was able to identify in this school a discipline enabler ethos, improvement can be achieved by means of prevention (specifically, in what concerns time and space management) and application of corrective and sanctioning actions more in line with the disruptive behaviours to be correct or eliminated.
